If a planned order is created automatically or manually for an assembly produced in-house in SAP APO, the system explodes the plan for a source of supply. In the plan explosion, the system automatically determines the location in which the system creates the requirement for a component or the receipt for the co-product or by-product. Therefore, in order processing, you withdraw a component for the assembly in this location, or you store a co-product or by-product of the assembly here.
Note
The system always creates the receipt for the assembly in the planning location, that is, in the location in which you plan the assembly and create the planned order.
The system uses master data for location determination. In addition to location data, this includes the following data in the plan for the source of supply:
The storage location for the component, the co-product, or by-product in the case of a production process model (PPM) or a PP/DS runtime object (RTO)
If you transfer sources of supply from SAP R/3, the system automatically determines the storage location for a component, a co-product, or by-product (see Storage Location Determination in Source Transfer to SAP APO ). In SAP APO, you can enter another storage location in the plan for the PPM at any time.
The supply area entered in an activity mode in the case of an iPPE access object
Note
The supply areas for the modes must belong to a location.
If you can procure a component from several locations, the locations are not determined “dynamically”, that is, depending on the availability of the component in the various locations. Location determination is a “static” procedure that always leads to the same issuing location for a specific combination of locations with storage locations or supply areas.
In general, the issuing location for a component or the receiving location for a co-product or by-product is identical to the planning location in which you plan the assembly and create the planned order. However, in the following planning scenarios, the issuing location for a component or the receiving location for a co-product or by-product may differ from the planning location:
To determine the issuing or the receiving location, the system uses the procedure that is described in the next section.
The procedure evaluates the following locations:
Production location
If a production locationhas not been entered in the source of supply, the production location and the planning location are identical.
In the case of
production in another location
, a production location has been entered in the source of supply that differs from the planning location.
Plant location to which the production location belongs
If the production location is a storage location MRP area, the plant location is entered in the location master of the storage location MRP area.
Otherwise, the plant location and production location are identical.
The system uses this location, the storage location, or the supply area to determine the issuing location for a component using the following procedure. The receiving location for a co-product or a by-product is determined in the same way.
No storage location or supply area has been entered in the plan for the component or the mode.
If the component is created in the production location, the production location is the issuing location.
If the component is not created in the production location, but the production location is a storage location MRP area and the component is created in the plant location, the plant location is the issuing location.
A storage location or supply area has been entered in the plan for the component or the mode.
If there is a storage location MRP area for the combination of plant location and storage location or supply area, and the component is created in this storage location MRP area, this storage location MRP area is the issuing location.
If there is a storage location MRP area for the combination of plant location and storage location or supply area, but the component is not created in this storage location MRP area, the plant location is the issuing location.
If there is not a storage location MRP area for the combination of plant location and storage location or supply area, and the component is created in the plant location, the plant location is the issuing location.
In all other cases, the system does not create a dependent requirement in the planned order for the component.
Note
If the system has determined a storage location MRP area, it automatically assigns the requirement for a component or the receipt for a co-product or by-product to the leading storage location of the storage location MRP area.
