Function documentationStock Transfer with Storage Location MRP Areas

In SAP APO, you use a transportation lane for the stock transfer of a product between two locations. You can use the relevant transportation lanes as part of Supply Chain Planning in a plant, for example:

  • To transfer a product from the plant location to a storage location MRP area

If you have entered the special procurement type stock transfer from plant to MRP area for a material in the MRP area in SAP ERP, a transportation lane is automatically created between the plant and the storage location MRP area when the material is transferred to SAP APO.

  • Transfer a product between two storage location MRP areas

You cannot map the stock transfer between two storage location MRP areas in SAP ERP. If you want to execute a stock transfer between two storage location MRP areas, you have to create a transportation lane between the storage location MRP areas in SAP APO.

You can also execute cross-plant stock transfers as usual.

The following graphic shows a plant location and two storage location MRP areas. Transportation lanes that you have created in the way described above link the locations. The plant location manufactures a component that it uses to supply the storage location MRP areas. In storage location MRP area 1, you have created a planned order for an assembly. The planned order creates a dependent requirement for the component. You procure the component from the plant location through a stock transfer.

The release status of the connected SAP ERP system determines which types of stock transfer documents you can use to plan a stock transfer that involves a storage location MRP area, as described in the following table:

As of SAP R/3 4.5B

If the destination or source location of the transportation lane is a storage location MRP area, SAP APO creates a stock transfer reservation.

In order that SNP can create a stock transfer reservation, the planning area and the planning book must contain the key figures for displaying stock transfer reservations, distribution demand (MRP area) and distribution receipt (MRP area).

In SAP ERP, you process the stock transfer using a transfer posting for the reservation.

As of SAP R/3 Enterprise Core Release 4.70 with SAP R/3 Enterprise Extension Set 2.0

In SAP APO, you can define for each transportation lane that involves a storage location MRP area whether SAP APO creates a stock transport requisition or a stock transfer reservation.

Stock transport requisitions are required:

- If you want to process shipments explicitly in SAP ERP with shipping papers, Dangerous Goods Management, and so on.

- If you want to plan in SAP APO with deployment.

Note Note

The use of stock transport orders (instead of stock transfer reservations) to transfer stock between MRP areas implies SAP R/3 Enterprise Release 4.70 Extension 2.0; see also SAP Note 594318Information published on SAP site.

End of the note.
