  Procurement-Relevant Products

Definition

Product in a supersession chain that is valid at the planning time or from a later time within the PP/DS horizon.

The product can therefore be procured to cover product requirements.

Use

If an MRP run is called for an interchangeable product, the system executes procurement planning for all products in the supersession chain. However, the system can only create procurement proposals for the procurement-relevant products. A product is not relevant for procurement if:

  • It is already discontinued at the planning time

  • It is only valid after the PP/DS horizon

In the first case, the product can no longer be procured; in the second case, the product should not yet be procured.

Example

The following graphic shows the successive validity periods for products A, B, C, D, and E in a supersession chain. Since only the validity periods of products B, C, and D lie partially or entirely in the PP/DS horizon, only these products are relevant for procurement.

If it is permitted, the system can cover a net requirement for product A, which is in the past or in the validity period for A, using surplus stock and fixed receipts from A, or by procuring the successor B. The system has to cover a net requirement for A, which is in the validity period of product C or product D, by procuring product C or product D, if necessary.
