 Conversion Checks

Use

You use conversion checks when you want to allow a production order or purchase requisition to be opened only if the order fulfills important business prerequisites. To do this, the SAP APO system can execute the following checks automatically:

  • ATP Check

The ATP check checks the availability of the ATP components for a planned order and the availability of the product to be transferred to the source location for a stock transport requisition. An order fulfills the conversion prerequisites if the check does not determine any missing parts .

  • Requirements check

The requirements check checks which sales orders or planned independent requirements are covered directly or indirectly by an order. The system executes this multi-level check using the pegging structure that is included in the order. An order fulfills the conversion prerequisites if it contributes exclusively to covering sales orders.

  • Customer-specific check

A customer-specific check checks the convertibility of an order according to customer-specific criteria. An order fulfills the conversion prerequisites if it fulfills the customer-specific criteria.

You use a conversion rule to specify which of these checks should be executed by the system, specific to the location product.

Prerequisites

  • You have defined conversion rules in the customizing for Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling .

  • You have specified a conversion rule in the customizing forProduction Planning and Detailed SchedulingunderMaintain global parameters and defaults. If you do not specify a conversion rule in the location product master, the system will use the conversion rule from the customizing.

  • If you want to execute a customer-specific conversion check, you must implement this check in Business Add-In /SAPAPO/RRP_ORD_CONV. You can call up BADI maintenance in the customizing for Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) under Define checks for converting orders .

Features

Time of the check

The SAP APO system automatically executes the conversion checks defined in the conversion rule if the conversion indicator is set for an order.

Reactions to the check result

How the system reacts to the check depends on whether you execute the conversion functions in the background or online, and which authorizations are set in the role that is assigned to you.

  • For background processes , an order must fulfill the conversion prerequisites: For the conversion of an SNP order into a PP/DS order, the system only sets the conversion indicator for the PP/DS order if the PP/DS order has passed the conversion checks. The same applies for mass transfer with conversion in the background: The system only transfers orders for which it was able to set the conversion indicator.

  • For online processes , the role controls if you can set the conversion indicator for an order that cannot be converted, according to the check, and transfer it to the SAP R/3 system. For example, with the corresponding authorization, you can set the conversion indicator for a planned order and transfer the order into the SAP R/3 system, with online mass transfer, if not all components are available. In the SAP R/3 system the planned order is nevertheless automatically converted into a production order.

SAP delivers the standard PP/DS roles with the authorization to override the standard conversion checks (ATP check and requirements check).

Role-specific overriding of the conversion check

In the role you assign to a user, you can specify if the user can set the conversion indicator for an order for online processes or if they can transfer an order, for which the conversion indicator has been set, into the SAP R/3 system, even if the order does not fulfill the prerequisites for conversion. You define the corresponding authorizations in the role maintenance using the authorization object for the location product APO: PP/DS, location product (C_APO_MALO) and the authorization field Functions in PP/DS (APO_PPFUNC) . You issue the authorizations for overriding the standard checks by specifying the following values for the functions in PP/DS.
