 Project Order

Definition

Order for project manufacturing. The structure of the order is defined by the corresponding network in SAP R/3. The order is used in make-to-order (MTO) production; the produced object is not inventory-managed. Accordingly, no material is produced in the project order – there is no master output.

Use

Project orders can only be created and processed in SAP R/3 and transferred from SAP R/3 to SAP APO. In a SAP APO planning application, project orders can neither be created nor deleted manually by the user, nor automatically by the system. Project orders can be rescheduled using PP/DS functions; any changes in scheduling are transferred to SAP R/3.

You can carry out the ATP check for project order components. Product interchangeability is supported for project orders, so that the non-availability of a requirement for discontinuations in the ATP check is transferred to the successor. The results of confirmed quantities in an ATP check and the change to requirement components as a result of interchangeability are transferred to SAP R/3.

Each change to the component quantity, the dates, or the status of a project order in SAP R/3 is automatically transferred to SAP APO. A project order is deleted in SAP APO, if you set the status of a network in SAP R/3 to technically completed, or if the network is deleted.

Structure

Representation of a Project Order in SAPAPO

In SAP APO, the project order consists of activities with at the most one mode, relationships, requirements, and receipts. The order has the following elements:

  • Order header:

    • The order has no independent product.

    • SAP APO displays the order start dates from SAP R/3. These dates can only be displayed in SAP APO; they have no relevance in SAP APO.

    • The order is not linked with a source of supply.

    • The status information is assigned according to the status of the SAP R/3 network header.

    • Input and output is fixed.

    • Orders are always created as scheduled in SAP APO.

  • Receipts

The assembly items of the SAP R/3 network are transferred to SAP APO and can be used in material planning.

  • Requirements

The reservation for network requirements is displayed.

  • Activities

    • Network activities can be assigned to a WBS element in SAP R/3. This assignment is transferred to SAP APO. In the order view, the network activities are grouped by WBS element.

    • The quantity fields and the target capacity fields for the activity’s setup group and setup key are not used for the networks.

Project Orders in Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)

The followingtable provides an overview of the planning-relevant features of project orders and the project order display using the interactive PP/DS planning tools.

Function

Aspects Specific to Project Orders

Status

Since a project order can only be changed to a limited extent in SAP APO and the requirement and receipt quantities are fixed, a project order in PP/DS has the status firmed outputand firmed input. These statuses cannot be reset.

PP Planning Procedures

Project orders have planning procedure 4 to create planning file entries. You can change or create project orders in SAP R/3, and change the project orders in SAP APO.

Heuristics

You can use the heuristics for schedule sequence, remove backlog, schedule sequence manually, minimize runtime, rescheduling: bottom-up, rescheduling: top-down, delete fixed pegging relations, fix pegging relations.

Display of Project Orders in PP/DS

Tool

Aspects Specific to Project Orders

Order view

You can display a project order in the order processing view.

DS planning board

You can use the resource chart and the activities chart showing pegging relations. Activities without capacity requirements are not shown as graphical objects in the resource chart. To obtain a complete scheduling picture that includes all relationships, you have to use a dummy resource with a dummy capacity requirement.

The order chart shows only the start and end dates of a project order.

The product chart is relevant only if the project order has a pegging relation (fixed/dynamic) to a production order.

Product planning table

Requirements and by-products are displayed.

To facilitate entry into projects, you can use transaction code /SAPAPO/PRJ1 to select the project orders to be changed or displayed.
