Procedure

1.       Creating the archiving object

...

       1.      You are in the maintenance for the InfoProvider from which you want to archive data. From the main menu, choose Extras Archive...  To create an archiving object, confirm the subsequent dialog box.

       2.      On the Select Data tab page, either select a characteristic for time restriction under Time Slots, or, alternatively, set the selection characteristics.  You can do this by dragging the required selection characteristics into the left-hand side of the screen with Drag&Drop , or you can use the arrow keys. Note

For data archiving from non-cumulative InfoCubes, you need to be aware of some special features.  See also Archiving Data from Non-Cumulative InfoCubes.

       3.      On the File Structure tab page, specify the maximum size of the generated archive files and define the data object. Do this by dragging the required characteristics with Drag&Drop into the left-hand side of the screen, or by using the arrow keys. The data is then sorted according to these characteristics and written to the archive file.

       4.      On the Folder tab page, specify the logical file name, storage system and delete sequence. You only need to specify the storage system and delete sequence if you are using a separate storage system.

       5.      On the Delete tab page, choose your delete options.

       6.      Choose Continue. You are now back in the maintenance screen for the InfoProvider.

       7.      Save and activate your InfoProvider. Your archiving object is now generated.

2.    Executing Archiving

       1.      You are in the InfoProvider tree. From the context menu for your InfoProvider, choose Archive Administration. The Archive Administration Initial Screen now appears (transaction SARA).

       2.      Create an archiving variant.

       3.      Schedule the archive run; this allows you to test the run in the test mode first, before starting the actual archive run in the productive mode.

3.   Deleting Archived Data

When the archiving run has successfully ended, you can delete data from the database using the archiving run selection criteria. 

You are in the initial screen of Archive Administration. Choose the pushbutton Delete.

Note

The InfoProvider is locked for other actions until the archived data has been deleted from the InfoProvider.
