Upgrading a Portal Application
Using PDK for .NET
Purpose
You use this IT process to adjust an application to the upgrades of the data sources, software or platform that it is based on.

1. Adjust application to data source upgrades
If the data sources used in your application, such as back-end systems, databases, or Web services, have been upgraded, you need to make the necessary adjustments to your application code and/or configuration.
2. Adjust application to software upgrades
If you are upgrading to a higher version of PDK for .NET, which is backward compatible, you do not need to change your existing applications. However, you might want to do so to take advantage of the capabilities provided by a new version.
This step is optional.
3. Adjust application to platform upgrades
If you are upgrading to a higher version of the SAP NetWeaver platform, you do not need to change your existing applications. However, you might need to upgrade the PDK for .NET runtime components to adjust to the platform upgrade.
Result
You have adjusted your application to the upgrades of the data sources, software or platform that it is based on.
