Background documentation Old Transformation Concept  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The transformation process allows you to define rules for consolidating, cleansing, and integrating data. You can define semantic keys for the aggregation.

In releases before SAP NetWeaver 7.0, the central object for the transformation is the InfoSource. The individual fields of the DataSource are assigned to the relevant InfoObjects in the InfoSource. The data can then be transformed using transfer rules. The update rules then specify how the data (key figures, time characteristics, characteristics) is updated into the InfoProvider from the communication structure of an InfoSource. The data can also be transformed in the update rules.

You can continue to use this concept, however we recommend that you change to the new transformation concept as of SAP NetWeaver 7.0. The new concept offers enhanced functionality, better performance, improved log functions and better usability. In addition, the new concept will continue to be developed, whereas the old functionality will not be developed further.

In the new transformation concept, you no longer require two different rules (a transfer rule and an update rule). You only need the transformation rules. You edit the transformation rules on a more intuitive graphical user interface. InfoSources are no longer mandatory; they are optional and are only required for certain functions. Transformations also provide additional functions such as quantity conversion and the option of creating an end routine or expert routine.
