Use

In the Modeling functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench, you can use a graphic to display the data flow of objects in BI. This illustrates the connections and dependencies between individual objects. They can be called for InfoAreas, InfoProviders, aggregation levels, InfoSources, open hub destinations, and DataSources. In addition, you can show runtime objects such as InfoPackages and data transfer processes. You can call the context menus of the Data Warehousing Workbench for the displayed objects and rules, and then change or extend an existing data flow using the data flow display.

Integration

From the object tree, you can call this graphic for an object by choosing Display Dataflow in the context menu (right mouse click) of the object. You can display the data flow in an upward or downward direction from the starting object, or in both directions. You can also specify additional start objects for the data flow display. The graphics are displayed in the right-hand screen area of the Data Warehousing Workbench. For a start object, the connected objects and rules are displayed.

Features

The objects themselves represent nodes in the graphic. The rules that describe the dependencies between objects are displayed using arrows. Icons indicate the type of rule. The nodes contain the object symbol and the descriptive text. If you select an arrow with the mouse, the quick info indicates which rule connects the two objects. You can show InfoPackages and data transfer processes in the graphic by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Display Runtime Objects.

By double-clicking a node or arrow, you branch to the display of an object or a rule. If you select an object or rule, you can use the context menu to call all context menu functions of the Data Warehousing Workbench. You can therefore add additional objects and enhance the data model directly from the data flow.

By choosing the appropriate pushbutton on the data flow graphic, you can display the technical name of the objects. You can also print the graphic or save it in JPG format, show runtime objects, zoom the display in or out, rotate or update the display, and show a navigation window. You can rearrange the objects in the data flow and refresh the display; new objects are added to the display and deleted objects are no longer displayed.

You can call information about the functions of the data flow display by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Documentation.
