The Server List tab displays a list of all precalculation servers that are connected with your BW server. This provides you with information about the status of the precalculation server (ready, busy, offline), its ID and its description, together with the name of the gateway host and the number of current instances. You can view, modify and delete existing precalculation servers here, or create new ones. You can also display a graphic that shows you the status of the precalculation servers.

Procedure

Display Precalculation Server
  1. Select a precalculation server.

  2. Choose Display Server.

Together with the server data (name, description, ID, gateway host, status, current instances), the system displays the statistics for this server in a bar chart. This shows the number of precalculations that are currently open, being edited, successful or failed on this server.

You can also perform the following actions:

    • Display Log: To find out why a precalculation has failed, you can view the log.

    • Test Server: You can test precalculation servers with status green and have a workbook precalculated.

      The system starts report RS_PRECALC_TEST.

      1. Select a broadcast setting to test the server with.

      2. The precalculation server you have selected is now entered under Precalculation Server. You can select and test another calculation server if required.

      3. If you want to keep the distribution types (Broadcast E-Mail:, Broadcast to the Portal) specified in the broadcast setting, select Keep Distribution/Broadcast. The workbook is then broadcast accordingly.

      4. If you want to download the precalculated workbook as file instead (or additionally) and save it locally for example, leave the selection as Download File.

      5. Choose Execute.

The system performs the precalculation in accordance with your entries and then displays the log.

    • To change the description of the server, you can switch to change mode (the Toggle Between Change and Display Mode icon).

Create Precalculation Server

When creating a precalculation server, the system generates an RFC destination in transaction SM59. Make sure that you have the authorization to create an RFC destination.

  1. Log on with a Windows user name that has administrative rights on the computer where the precalculation server will run.

This is important because the system adds a number of entries to the Windows registry.

  2. Log on to the BW system on this computer and run transaction RSPRECALCADMIN.

  3. Choose Create Precalculation Server.

  4. Enter a description and an ID.

    Note Note

Note that you cannot change this ID again afterwards. Only the description can be changed.

    End of the note.
  5. Save your entries.

Note Note

You can set the gateway host manually and overwrite the system default name for the host (using an SAProuter string for example). For more information, see SAP Note 1496606.

End of the note.
Change Description of a Precalculation Server

The description of the precalculation servers is language specific. If you use the system in more than one language, you can change the description for each of them.

  1. Log on to the BW system in the language that you want to change the description for.

  2. Select the precalculation server and choose Change Precalculation Server.

  3. Enter the new/language-specific description.

  4. Save your entries.
