Use

The following sections outline the tools that support you in integrating content from BI into the portal.

Features

Tools in the Business Explorer

As an author, you generate BI applications within the BI system using the following Business Explorer (BEx) tools:

BEx Web Application Designer

BEx Web applications are created as Web templates with the BEx Web Application Designer. When Web templates are displayed in the Web browser, they are called BEx Web applications. For more information, see Web Application Design: BEx Web Application Designer.

You can call the BEx Broadcaster from the Web Application Designer to broadcast Web templates to the portal. In the Web Application Designer, choose Web Template Publish BEx Broadcaster. The BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the available broadcast settings for the Web template that you have edited in the Web Application Designer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the Web template. For more information, see Precalculating and Broadcasting Queries, Query Views, Web Templates, and Reports.

You can also publish the Web templates directly from the Web Application Designer as an iView in the Portal Content Directory. For more information, see Publishing Queries, Web Applications, and Reports.

BEx Report Designer

You create reports with the BEx Report Designer. For more information, see Enterprise Reporting.

You can call the BEx Broadcaster from the Report Designer to broadcast reports to the portal. In the Report Designer, choose Report  Publish Broadcaster. The BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the available broadcast settings for the report that you edited in the Report Designer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the report. For more information, see Precalculating and Broadcasting Queries, Query Views, Web Templates, and Reports.

You can also publish the reports directly from the Report Designer as an iView in the Portal Content Directory. For more information, see Publishing Queries, Web Applications, and Reports.

BEx Query Designer

You can create queries with the BEx Query Designer. For more information, see Query Design: BEx Query Designer.

You can call the BEx Broadcaster from the Query Designer to broadcast queries to the portal. In the Query Designer, choose Query Publish Broadcaster. The BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the available broadcast settings for the query that you edited in the Query Designer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the query. For more information, see Precalculating and Broadcasting Queries, Query Views, Web Templates, and Reports.

You can also publish the queries directly from the Query Designer as an iView in the Portal Content Directory. For more information, see Publishing Queries, Web Applications, and Reports.

BEx Broadcaster

Precalculated documents and links to BEx Web applications, reports, or queries in Knowledge Management are generated with the BEx Broadcaster. For more information, see Integration Functions in the BEx Broadcaster.

BEx Analyzer

The BEx Analyzer is the platform for creating and editing BEx Analyzer workbooks. For more information, see Analysis & Reporting: BEx Analyzer.

In the BEx Analyzer, you can call the BEx Broadcaster using the analysis toolbar by choosing the Tools icon and then BEx Broadcaster. The BEx Broadcaster opens. A list of the available broadcast settings for the workbook that you edited in the BEx Analyzer is displayed. You can precalculate and broadcast the workbook. For more information, see Precalculating and Distributing Workbooks.

For more information about including workbooks as documents, see BEx Analyzer Workbook As a Precalculated Document in KM.

Generating iViews with workbooks is not directly supported from within the BEx Analyzer. You have to manually create the iViews with workbooks in the Portal Content Studio. For more information, see BEx Analyzer Workbook as an iView in Portal.

Tools on the Portal

Portal Content Studio

The Portal Content Studio is a tool within the portal that allows you to manually include content from BI and set specific properties (for example, for the portal cache). You can edit portal objects created in the Business Explorer with the Portal Content Studio. For more information, see Integration Using the Portal Content Studio.

Note

When iViews are created, they are assigned an iView ID. This iView ID has to be unique within a folder in the Portal Catalog.

KM Content

The KM Content from the Content Administration role of the portal is the central environment on the portal to create and manage content in Knowledge Management. In KM Content, you can access various BI documents in Knowledge Management. For more information, see Integration Using KM Content.

Role Upload

You can also integrate content from BI into the portal using role upload. For more information, see Integration Using Role Upload.

When working with BEx Web applications (SAP BW 3.x format), you can use the Role Menu and Alert Monitor Web items to call content from BI directly from a BEx Web application that you integrated into the portal as an iView. For more information, see the SAP Library at help.sap.com/nw04 SAP NetWeaver Information Integration SAP Business Information Warehouse BI Suite: Business Explorer Integration into the SAP Enterprise Portal Integration of SAP BW and SAP EP Integration of SAP BW 3.5 and SAP EP 6.0 Integration from the Viewpoint of Administrators and Authors Generating Content from SAP BW for the Enterprise Portal Integration Using the Role Menu and the Alert Monitor.

Migration iView

With the migration iView, you can migrate BI documents from the BI server to a CM repository on the portal and edit them using Web applications and KM iViews. For more information, see Migration of Documents into the CM Repository.
