Procedure documentation Remodeling InfoProviders  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

You have created an InfoProvider and loaded data into it.

We recommend compressing the InfoCube if you want to add or replace key figures. You can only remodel the InfoCube in a noncompressed form if you are certain that there are no duplicate records in the InfoCube.

Example

You add a key figure that is filled with a constant to a noncompressed InfoCube. The value of the key figure is valid for every row in the fact table of the InfoCube, including the rows that only differ in their request ID. During aggregation, the system also adds the values of the duplicates. You then get inconsistent values.

Procedure

Choose Save.

       1.      To access InfoProvider remodeling in the Data Warehousing Workbench, choose Administration. You can also access it in the context menu of your InfoProvider in the InfoProvider tree by choosing Additional Functions Remodeling.

       2.      Create a remodeling rule. Specify a name for the remodeling rule, select an InfoProvider as required, and choose Create.

       3.      Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Add Operation to List. You can select one of the following options from the dialog box:

       Add characteristic/key figure

       Delete characteristic/key figure

       Replace characteristic/key figure

       4.      For the Insert Characteristic and Replace Characteristic options, you have to specify how you want to fill the new characteristic with data:

Constant: the system fills the new characteristic with a constant.

Attribute: the system fills the new characteristic with the values of an attribute of a characteristic that is contained in this dimension.

1:1 mapping for characteristic: the system fills the new characteristic with the values of another characteristic. For example, you replace one characteristic with another and, in doing so, adopt the value of the original characteristic.

Customer exit: the system fills the new characteristic using a customer exit. More information: Customer Exits in Remodeling

For key figures, the customer exit is the only available fill method.

       5.      Choose Transfer.

       6.      Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have collected all changes. In the bottom half of the screen, you can make changes to the operations at any point. To do this, select the corresponding step in the upper half of the screen.

You can delete an operation at any time by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Remove Operation from the List.

       7.      Save your entries.

       8.      Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Check. The system checks whether the operations are correctly defined and whether the relevant InfoObjects are available in the InfoProvider.

       9.      You can display a list of the objects affected by remodeling by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Impact Analysis. These objects are deactivated during remodeling. You can make a note of the objects that you need to reactivate later.

   10.      Choose Schedule either to start remodeling immediately or to schedule it for later. You can specify whether the process is to be executed in parallel by choosing the Execute Steps in Parallel indicator. Only set this indicator if your system has the capacity to support this.

   11.      You can check the process in the monitor. More information: Monitor and Error Handling.

Result

The InfoProvider is available in a remodeled and active form.
