Procedure documentation Editing Hierarchies   Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

You have created a hierarchy for the required hierarchy basic characteristic (see Creating Hierarchies).

Procedure

You can create hierarchies in two ways: Either from the SAP Easy Access Menu or in the Data Warehousing Workbench from hierarchy maintenance.

On the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Modeling Master Data Maintenance Hierarchies. The Initial Screen Hierarchy Editing dialog box appears. For more information, see section “Accessing from  This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Editing Hierarchies“.

You are in the Data Warehousing Workbench in the Modeling functional area. You can access hierarchy editing in the following ways:

You can select an editing function in the context menu of a hierarchy in the InfoObject tree.

In the Data Warehousing Workbench, you can call hierarchy maintenance in the tool bar by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text  Edit Hierarchies.

       1.      In the Data Warehousing Workbench under Modeling, choose the InfoObject tree.

       2.      If you have assigned the hierarchy basic characteristic to an InfoObject catalog, select the corresponding InfoObject catalog for an InfoArea.

If the hierarchy basic characteristic does not belong to an InfoObject catalog, choose the InfoArea Unassigned Nodes and the InfoObject Catalog Unassigned Characteristics.

       3.      Select the characteristic hierarchy you want to edit and choose an editing function in the context menu. The following table gives you an overview of the available functions:

Display

The Display Hierarchy screen appears.

Change

The Change Hierarchy screen appears.

Copy

If several versions of the hierarchy are available, the Selection of Hierarchy Object Version dialog box appears. Choose the variant you want to use.

The Save Hierarchy As dialog box appears. Enter a hierarchy name.

If the hierarchy is version or time dependent, enter the hierarchy version and the validity date (see Hierarchy Properties).

You can enter descriptions (short, medium and long) for the hierarchy that you want to copy.

Delete

Confirm the prompt if you do actually want to delete the hierarchy.

Activate

The system notifies you of whether activation was successful.

In cases where it is not possible to activate the hierarchy, a dialog appears with the error log.

If the hierarchy is already used in an aggregate, you can choose

whether you want to activate the hierarchy directly and thereby delete the aggregate

whether you want preselect the hierarchy for activation.

In the latter case, you need to run the change run for this hierarchy. This updates all the aggregates contained in the hierarchy and activates the hierarchy. (See System Response Upon Changes to Master Data and Hierarchies)
