Use

Under certain circumstances executing the Reposting (Characteristic Relationships) function can mean that data records exist within a planning area that are inconsistent regarding their characteristic combination because of changes made in the area of data modeling (see Reposting (Characteristic Relationships)).

To delete data records of this type from the database, use the Delete (Invalid Combination) function.  This is recommended when the change in the characteristic values reflects a business activity that does not allow a sensible conversion of the data records using the Reposting (Characteristic Relationships) function.

Example

You have entered transaction data for branch A100 of your company. Because of a characteristic relationship defined in the planning area, the appropriate region, “North,” was derived for the branch and the data record was saved in the database with the characteristic value combination “A100”/“North.”

Later while restructuring your company, you dissolve the branch and the characteristic value A100 of the characteristic branch is deleted. Thus the data record saved with the characteristic value combination “A100”/“North” is invalid. You can delete the data record with the function described here, provided that you no longer require the data records for summary reporting at regional level.

Integration

Implementing this function is only advisable under the following conditions:

·        Within a planning area in which characteristic relationships of the type derivation are defined.

·        After data records have been generated whose characteristic value combinations may have been affected by these relationships.

Prerequisites

To make sure that all possible data records are entered by the function, you can only create and execute functions of the type Delete (Invalid Combinations) in a planning level that contains all characteristics and key figures of the InfoCube it is based on.

Features

You can use conditions to restrict the number of data records among which the system should search for invalid characteristic combinations. No further settings are possible.

After you have created a parameter group for a function, you can execute it. The system then searches for the data records, the characteristic values of which are invalid, and deletes the appropriate data records. Characteristic values can be invalid for the following reasons:

·        A value is entered for a characteristic in a data record that is not contained in the master data of this characteristic.

·        Values occur in a combination of characteristic values, which are linked by a hierarchy, but do not occur in the hierarchy.
