Background documentation Static and Dynamic Sections in Reports  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

A report can include static and dynamic sections. With static sections, query fields can be positioned freely in the report.

Static Section

A static section is based on a query (or a query view) containing two structures. One structure in the rows and the other in the columns. Static sections allow you to freely position all fields in the section. This is possible because each field is unique in a static section. The initial view in Report Designer is therefore the executed query (query view). Each row in the executed query has one row pattern.

The following figure shows an example of a report with a static section.

A static section can also be a report section without data connection, meaning that it does not have a data provider. Sections of this kind include a header, footer and report section (to insert gaps or your own text and comments) that you can integrate into your report using the Insert menu in Report Designer.

Dynamic Section

A dynamic section is based on a query (or query view) with one or more characteristics in the drilldown. This means that one or more group levels is designed for the initial view in Report Designer. There is one group level for each characteristic. In a dynamic section, query fields can only be moved from external group levels into internal ones. In dynamic sections, the number of rows varies at runtime, whereas the number of columns is fixed.

The following figure shows an example of a report with a dynamic section and the group levels that have been added.

Setting reports with dynamic sections is made possible by the row pattern concept. More information: Row Patterns.
