Displaying Data Lineage for DataSource Fields 

Use

To show where the origin of DataSource data is in the source system, use data lineage for DataSource fields.

Prerequisites

Note the following prerequisites for using this function:

●      The source system is an SAP source system.

●      The basis plug-in installed in the source system is release stand 2006.1 or higher.

Procedure

You are in the DataSource maintenance screen (transaction RSDS).

       1.      Choose  Data Lineage for DataSource.

       2.      A logon screen appears. Log on to the source system with your user and password.

The following information is displayed in the top area of the screen BI Service API: Data Lineage:

○       DataSource Name

○       Extraction Method

○       Application Component of DataSource

○       Extractor, extract structure and related information, for example, table structure type and table name for extraction method V (transparent table or DB View).

The extract structure fields of the DataSource (including the fields from append structures for the DataSource) are displayed in the lower area of the screen. The fields that are hidden in the extraction structure of the source system (and are therefore excluded from data transfer) are not shown here. Fields that are filled using exits are also not shown. In the column Kd Field, you can see whether a DataSource field was provided by SAP or created by a customer or partner. Further information might be shown depending on the extraction method.

With a DataSource that extracts using Extraction Method V (transparent table or DB view) from a transparent table, the information listed above and the following information is shown:

·         Source table field: Field from which the generic extractor fills the DataSource field.

·         Source table: Table from which the generic extractor fills the DataSource field.

·         Kd table: Shows whether the field in the source table was provided by SAP or whether it belongs to the customer.

       3.      To show further information on the DataSource fields, choose More Details.

The top area of the screen shows the corresponding package for the DataSource, extractor or extract structure.

The lower area of the screen shows the extract structure include for every DataSource field. This shows the origin include or the (append) structure of the extract structure field.

       4.      Double-click on the extractor and the extract structure to navigate further in the source system and thereby find out more information on the DataSource. Therefore you can, for example, navigate to the Function Builder by double-clicking on the extractor with the extraction method F1 Function Module (complete interface) or display the table or view in the dictionary with extraction method V (transparent table or DB view).
