Procedure documentation Saving Query Variants  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can save a variant for a query after you have filled the variables with values according to your requirements. When you next open the workbook, you can call the variant. You can also select different variable values for an existing variant and save the variant. For example, you can add a variable value to a variant. You can create multiple variants so that you can choose different variable values. However, only one variant can be active at any one time.

Note

As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 14, you can save variants for a workbook and not only for a query. You make the settings for this in the workbook settings. Below, only query variants are mentioned, but the functions for workbook variants are identical.

More information: Workbook Settings

Prerequisites

You are using a query that contains at least one input-ready variable.

Procedure

Saving Query Variants

...

       1.      Open a query in a workbook that contains variables.

       2.      After you select the variable values for your query, (see Changing Variable Values), choose Save as Variant to create a new variant.

       3.      Enter a description and a technical name for the variant.

If you set the Save as User-Specific Variant indicator, the variant is only available to you. If you do not set the indicator, everyone who opens the query can use the variant.

If you set the Use as Default Variant indicator, this variant is used when the query is opened.

The variant is now displayed in the list of available variants.

Note

If you later want to change the description for the variant, choose Properties and enter the new description.

       4.      To check your entries, choose Check.

The results for the variant are displayed in the analysis grid.

You can use the variant for the query the next time you open the query.

Overwriting Query Variants

       1.      Open a query in a workbook that contains variables and for which you have created a variant (see the Saving Query Variants section).

       2.      After you have called a variant for a query, choose Save in the toolbar for the dialog box to change the variable value for an existing variant.

The selected variable values overwrite the existing variant.

       3.      To check your entries, choose Check.

The variant is displayed in the list of variants available to the user. The query is executed for the variant and the results are displayed in the analysis grid.

Deleting Query Variants

       1.      Open a query in a workbook that contains variables and for which you have created a variant (see the Saving Query Variants section).

       2.      In the dialog box for entering variables, from the list of available variants, select the variant that you want to delete.

       3.      In the toolbar for the dialog box, choose Delete.

Note

The function for deleting variants is only available if you have created at least one variant for the query.

Result

You have saved variable values in your query as a variant. The variant is displayed in the list of variants available to the user and can be called the next time the query is executed.
