BI Background Management, Logs and Tools 

The BI Background Management, Logs and Tools screen offers functions for managing background processes and parallel processes in the BI system.

It also includes reports for BI system management which primarily improve the performance for request accesses and which need to be executed after the upgrade. SAP Support can use the debugging functions and a central log search to detect and analyze any errors.

You can find the functions of BI Background Management, Logs and Tools in the Data Warehousing Workbench in the functional area Administration under Batch Manager (transaction RSBATCH).

Functions for Managing Background and Parallel Processes in the BI System

The Background and Parallel Processes tab page offers the following functions:

●      You make settings for the parallel processing of BI processes that are managed in BI background management.

Make sure that the system has enough background work processes (type BTC - Process processes background requests/ Process background jobs) for parallel processing of the BI processes with BI background management. Approximately 50% more background work processes are required than before.

●      You can display and analyze information about background jobs and work processes that are used in BI background management.

Reports for BI System Management

You can run various check, conversion and repair reports on the Reports tab page.

Some of these reports need to be executed after an upgrade.

Functions for Finding and Analyzing Errors in the BI System

The Support Tools tab page offers functions that primarily help SAP Support with the following tasks for detecting and analyzing errors:

●      Finding logs and protocols for BI processes in various areas

Choose Search Logs in BI. You can use different criteria to search for logs and messages. Searches supported include: Search for logs for ABAP runtime errors (ST22), SysLogs (SM21), application logs (SLG1), monitor logs, job logs (SM37), traces for SM50, logs for BI background management, and transport logs and activation search results.

●      Debugging processes of BI background management

You can specify selections for debugging a BI process that is managed in BI background management (Debug Selections) and debug this BI process directly (Execute Debugging).
