For an overview of the OLAP functions and services implemented using SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence, see OLAP.
The following sections describe some of the special OLAP functions of BI in detail:
● To be able to calculate the values of key figures, the OLAP Engine aggregates the data of the InfoProvider to the detail level of the query at aggregation.
More information: Aggregation
● You can use hierarchies to model values of a characteristic, characteristic attributes, and dimensions of an InfoCube in structured form.
More information: Hierarchies
● You can use the Elimination of Internal Business Volume function to eliminate sales volumes relating to movements between two cost centers within the company when executing a BEx query.
More information: Elimination of Internal Business Volume
● You can use currency translation to translate the key figures with currency fields that exist in the source system in different currencies into a standard currency in the BI system (for example, the local currency or company currency).
More information: Currency Translation
● Quantity conversion allows you to convert key figures with units that have different units of measure in the source system into a uniform unit of measure in the BI system.
More information: Quantity Conversion
● Local calculations enable the recalculation of single values and results in accordance with specific criteria. For example, you can create ranked lists or you can calculate the total for a Top 10 product list locally in the executed query.
More information: Local Calculations
● You can use the Constant Selection function to ensure that a defined selection in the Query Designer cannot be changed by navigation and filtering in the executed query. This allows you to select reference sizes that do not change at runtime.
More information: Constant Selection
● Analysis authorizations are required by all users that want to display data from authorization-relevant characteristics or navigation attributes in a query.
More information: Analysis Authorizations
● The report-report interface allows you the flexibility to call a jump target (receiver) online from a BEx query (sender) within or outside of the BI system. Queries, transactions, reports, and Web addresses can be jump targets.
More information: Report-Report Interface
With SAP NetWeaver BI you can run various analysis scenarios. You can find the relevant information in the following sections:
● You create slow-moving item lists to enable the display of characteristic values for which no data is available in the InfoProvider. This allows you to determine characteristic values with NULL values.
More information: Example: List of Slow-Moving Items
● The suppression of zero rows and columns allows you to hide rows and columns that contain only zero values (0.00).
More information: Suppression of Zero Rows and Zero Columns
● You can use the Constant Selection function to generate a market index for displaying the sales volume values of products in relation to a product group, for example.
More information: Example: Market Index
Detailed example scenarios are available in the Data Warehouse for selected OLAP functions. These scenarios already contain all objects (InfoProviders with master data and transaction data and queries) that you need to execute the functions (for example, Elimination of Internal Business Volume) for example purposes.
