Defining the Print Layout
Use
On the Print Layout tab page, you can determine how the InfoObjects in the query are displayed on the print-out.

1. Choose the print area you want to use.
2. A double-click takes you to the Editor. Here, you determine how you want to set-up your chosen print area:
- Enter text
- Insert margins or separators
- Insert variables of the query
The variables are subdivided into:
- General text variables (text elements of the query and print details such as date of printing or page number)
- Special variables (attributes)
- Characteristics
- Selection parameters (variables and filter values)
Depending on what settings you made in the query definition, you may not be able to use of all types of text variables.
3. Save your entries.
No headers or footers are printed on the cover sheet and the final page.
If you do not make any settings for headers and footers, the print title, the date, and the time of printing, are printed in the header by default. The page number appears in the footer.
If you want to print a header or footer, delete all the rows from the header or footer. Save your entries.
Determining How InfoObjects Are Displayed
Query InfoObjects are displayed in the table by default. The key figures appear in the columns, and the characteristics appear in the rows of the table.
Note that this default setting, which appears when creating a print setting, can change the initial screen of your BEx query. This is particularly applies when your BEx query has key figures in rows and characteristics in columns. All structures appear in columns in the print setting.
You can determine how each of the individual InfoObjects are displayed:

1. Choose the Table node as print area.

<-> Change from the toolbar.
3. You can:
- Arrange the InfoObjects into the sequence you want using Drag&Drop.
- Drag the InfoObjects that you do not want to display in the drilldown, that is in the table, to the left-hand side of the screen and drop them under Available Objects.
- Drag&Drop characteristics into the cover sheet, page header, or table header areas. If the characteristic value changes, a new cover sheet and a new page header or a table header are created respectively.
You can make additional settings for every InfoObject:

1. Choose the InfoObject required. Choose using the context menu Properties. Selection fields for this InfoObject are shown on the right-hand side of the screen.
You can also get to the selection fields by double-clicking on the InfoObject.
2. Define the settings that you want to make. There are different options for characteristics and key figures:

Here you can determine if and in what form individual characteristic values for the characteristic are to be presented: · No Display: The layout of the characteristic is hidden. This function is useful, for example, for the currency/unit characteristic because the currencies are also presented with the key figures. · Key and Text: The characteristic values are followed by their technical key and their longest available text. · Text: The characteristic values are displayed using their longest available text. · Key: The characteristic values are displayed using their technical key. · Text and Key: The characteristic values are followed by their longest available text , followed by their technical key. · Short Text: the short text for the characteristic values is used as the text. · Long Text: The long text for the characteristic values is used as the text. · Medium Text: The medium text for the characteristic value is used as the text. · Text and Key as Short Text: The characteristic values are displayed with their short text, followed by their key. · Text and Key as Medium Text: The characteristic values are displayed with their medium text, followed by their key. · Text and Key as Long Text: The characteristic values are displayed with their long text, followed by their key. Furthermore, you can set Key and Text as Short-, Medium- or Long Text: The characteristic values are displayed with the key, followed by the short, medium or long text. With the text type, the system always offers each text for selection that was created in the InfoObject maintenance for the characteristic. See also Tab Page: Master Data/Texts.
The short text can contain a maximum of 20 characters, the medium text a maximum of 40 characters and the long text a maximum of 60 characters. |
Automatic column width |
This function is switched on by default. Automatic column width is set at max. 60 characters for titles, and max.32 characters for keys.
If you switch this function off, the field Column width that is filled manually, appears in the field Column 1 (or Column 2).
We recommend - that you choose the automatic column width function for keys - with characteristics with hierarchies, enter a column width manually. |
Totals row |
The following options are available: · Do not suppress totals (default setting) · Always suppress unconditional totals · Suppress conditional totals: If there is only one characteristic value for a characteristic, then no totals appear. This would only repeat the characteristic value. |
Column 1 |
The name of the key figure appears by default as the title. You can also enter another title. You can choose between the following settings: · Align left · Center · Align right If you want the column to be printed on more than just the first page of the query, choose on every page. |
Column 2 |
If you selected both options for display, that is Key and Text, there are actually two columns within the column for the characteristic. So for the second display option, you can choose: · the alignment, and · the on every page function. |

Attributes
If a characteristic has attributes, then you can choose them for the print-out as described under characteristics and display them.
You can select as many attributes as you want for the print characteristics you chose. However, the number of attributes should not be too large, so that data columns can still fit on the page.
If you select too many columns to be printed on every page, it can mean that there is no room for a data column on the page. The query can then no longer be printed.
Whether the first column with the characteristics and attributes is too wide for the print-out, depends on:
· the number of columns on each page
· the column width of the individual columns
· the page width set up over the page margins
If you want to display the attributes of the characteristic but not the characteristic itself in the print-out, select the characteristic as a printing characteristic and select Key as the display and 0 as the column width. The characteristic is then a printing characteristic, but is not displayed in the printed query.
