 Position Restriction

Definition

You can use position restriction to limit the occurrence of a certain characteristic to a certain position or partial sequence. If you want to define a characteristic for a certain partial sequence, you must specify the position 1 as the minimum value and position 5 as the maximum value, for example, in restriction processing. In this case, the system must then also schedule five orders with the desired characteristic one after the other at the positions 1 to 5 during the optimization process.If the system does not manage to do this, optimization with the genetic algorithm will lead to penalty costs.

Example

The Research & Development department wants to test 6 prototypes in production. For this purpose, the development engineers are going to visit the production line at 10.00 am to monitor the production of the prototype. Therefore, you define a position restriction for the following object dependency:

Prototype22 = 'Yes”

You define the following validity and weighting for the restriction in the start date view:

  • The first validity period for the restriction starts on the 1 st June 2006 in the first shift. Using the second validity period, the system calculated that the end of the first validity period is the first shift on the 1 st June 2006. The inactive indicator shows that the restriction is no longer valid in the second validity period and is therefore no longer to be used in planning.

  • The vehicles are to be assigned the sequence numbers 100 to 105 in the sequence for the day.

  • The restriction has been defined as hard because the engineers can only be at the production line during this time.
