A request for a Certification Authority (CA) to issue a public-key certificate to a user or component.
If the information contained in the certificate request adheres to the CA's issuing policies, then the CA digitally signs a public-key certificate that it sends back to the requester.
The format of a certificate request is specified in the Public Key Cryptographic Standard #10 (PKCS #10).
