Configuring the Connection from the Client to
a Server
After you start the Standalone Log Viewer client, you have to configure the connection from the client to a server.

1. To add a new connection to a server, choose File ® Configuration and then choose Add.
The Add a Log Viewer Server screen appears.
2. Specify the connection information as follows and then choose OK:

Name |
Enter the name of the server. |
Host name |
Enter the host name of the system to be monitored. |
Port |
Enter the port number of the system where the server is listening for new logs. The default values are: ● 50004 – for the J2EE Engine ● 26000 – for the Standalone Log Viewer server. |
Connection |
Select one of the following options: ● J2EE – if the J2EE Engine is running ● NI/Standalone – if you are connecting to a Standalone Log Viewer server. |
User |
Enter a J2EE Engine administrator user. This field is enabled only when, from the Connection dropdown box, you choose J2EE. |
Password |
Enter a J2EE Engine administrator password. This field is enabled only when, from the Connection dropdown box, you choose J2EE. |
Routing string |
This field is enabled only when you are using the NI socket connection. |
3. Optionally, to test the connection to a server, select the server and choose Test Connection.
4. Optionally, to edit the connection information for a server, select the server and choose Edit.
Edit the connection information and choose OK.
5. To connect to the server(s), in the Connect column, select the corresponding indicator(s) and choose OK.
6. Optionally, if you want the logs from all dialog instances to be shown under the central instance (as a root), check the relevant indicator in the Group Dialog Hosts column.
To view logs separately for each dialog instance, uncheck the indicator.

This checkbox is not relevant for systems that do not have dialog instances.
7. To delete the connection information for a server, select the server and choose Delete.
