Relevance for HUs

Definition

Classification of a packaging material.

A packaging material could be an auxiliary packaging material, the main packaging material, or a packaging material from the packaging specification (PS) level that is not relevant for handling units (HU).

Use

The following table describes the various attributes of the relevance for HUs.

Relevance for HUs	Description
Main packaging material	If you want the system to create an HU for a PS level, you must set the HU creation indicator for the PS level and classify on element of the PS level as the main packaging material. The system also uses the dimension data of the main packaging material for the HU. (If you classify several packaging materials as the main packaging material for a PS level, the system only takes account of the first main packaging material.) Note: · If you specify a main packaging material on several PS levels of a PS, the system generates several nested HUs with the PS. · If there is no main packaging material on any PS level, the system does not generate an HU with the PS.
Auxiliary packaging material	If you do not want a packaging material to be a main packaging material but you want SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) to include the packaging material in the HU data, you classify the packaging material as an auxiliary packaging material.
Not relevant for HUs	If you classify a packaging material as not relevant for HUs, SAP SNC does not include the packaging material in the HU data. You use this classification if the packaging material information is only relevant for the employee performing packing. Since the employee packs on the basis of the PS, the PS must contain all packaging materials required for packing.

Recommendation

You only need HUs to map goods movements. You should not, therefore, map any more HUs than the number required for your goods movements. Using the classifications Main Packaging Material, Auxiliary Packaging Material, and Not Relevant for HUs, you can ensure that the system only creates an HU on the highest PS level (that is, on the outermost packaging level) and not on any inner packaging levels. In this case, also classify the main packaging material on the highest PS level as Main Packaging Material. Classify the packaging materials on the lower PS levels as Auxiliary Packaging Materials or Not Relevant for HUs.
