A standby database for DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows uses a copy of the production database on a second hardware system. All transaction log files of the production system are applied to the standby database with configurable delay.

This enables you to recover from application errors as well as from database failures by switching to the standby database.

In addition, DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows gives full support for standby databases with the help of "suspend IO" functionality.
