Use this window to add, update and view the bin locations.

To access the window, from the SAP Business One Main Menu, choose Start of the navigation path Inventory Next navigation step Bin Locations Next navigation step Bin Location Master Data End of the navigation path.

General Area
Warehouse

From a choose from list of warehouses, select a warehouse where the bin is located.

The bin location code comprises the warehouse code, the sublevel codes, and the bin location code separator you defined.

From a choose from list of warehouse sublevel codes, select the sublevel codes that represent the physical location of the bin.

The bin location code comprises the warehouse code, the sublevel codes, and the bin location code separator you defined.

Note Note

Only the sublevels you have activated are available.

By default, SAP Business One activates sublevel 1 for you. To activate other warehouse sublevels, go to Bin Location Field Activation Window.

Bin Location Code

Displays the code of the bin location.

The bin location code comprises the warehouse code, the sublevel codes, and the bin location code separator you specified.

Modify Bin Location Codes

Choose this button to open the Bin Location Code Modification window, where you can modify bin location codes in batches.

Manage Bin Locations

Choose this button to open the Bin Location Management window, where you can generate, update, and delete bin locations in batches.

Bin Location Properties
Inactive

Deactivates the bin location.

Once a bin location is inactive, you cannot use the bin location for any purposes until you activate it again.

Note Note

You can deactivate the bin location only if there is no inventory of any item in the bin location.

Receiving Bin Location

Select the checkbox to indicate the bin location is a receiving bin location.

A receiving bin location is within a special section in a warehouse which typically represents a receiving inspection area for temporary storage of incoming goods. After the inspection is completed, the goods are then placed in storage bin locations.

Once you enable receiving bin locations for a warehouse and designate a bin location in the warehouse as a receiving bin location, this bin location is used automatically to store the items received externally from your vendors or customers.

Exclude from Auto. Alloc. On Issue

Select this checkbox to exclude the current bin location from those bin locations from which items are automatically allocated during issue.

Description

If required, enter a description of the bin location.

Item Weight

Displays the total weight of the items held in the bin location, using the weight defined on the Inventory Data tab in the Item Master Data window. However, items with negative quantities held in the bin location are not included.

Item Qty

Displays the total quantity of items in the bin location.

To view the details of the items, open the bin location content list by clicking Link Arrow (Link Arrow) to the left of the quantity.

No. of Items

Displays how many kinds of items are stored in the bin location.

No. of Batches/Serials

Displays how many serials and batches are stored in the bin location.

To view the details of the serials and batches, open the bin location content list by clicking Link Arrow (Link Arrow) to the left of the number.

Alternative Sort Code

If required, enter an alternative sort code for the bin location. The code can be alphabetic letters, numbers, symbols, or a combination of all. You can enter up to 50 characters.

During the inventory issue, the system can use the code as a criteria to decide from which bin locations items are allocated.

Note Note

SAP Business One automatically applies upper case to any alphabetic letters you enter.

Bar Code

If required, enter a bar code for the bin location. The code can be alphabetic letters, numbers, symbols, or a combination of all. You can enter up to 100 characters.

Minimum Qty

Enter the minimum quantity of items for the bin location.

When the inventory level in a bin location falls below the minimum quantity, you can replenish the bin location to the maximum quantity using either of the following two reports:

  • Bin location list

  • Bin location content list

Note Note

The minimum quantity does not have any effect on the issues of inventory from the bin location. That is, SAP Business One does not block the issuing of items even if it is causing the inventory in the bin location to fall below the minimum quantity.

Maximum Qty

Enter the maximum quantity of items for the bin location.

When the inventory level of a bin location falls below the minimum quantity, you can replenish the bin location to the maximum quantity using either of the following two reports:

  • Bin location list

  • Bin location content list

Note Note

  • The maximum quantity does not have any effect on the receipts of inventory to the bin location. That is, SAP Business One does not block the receiving of items even if it causes the inventory in the bin location to exceed the maximum.

  • If you do not define a maximum quantity, or you define the maximum quantity as zero, then the Receive Up to Max. Qty checkbox is not effective for the current bin location, even if you have selected it.

Maximum Weight

Enter the maximum weight of items for the bin location.

If you do not define a maximum weight, or you define the maximum weight as zero, then the Receive Up to Max. Weight checkbox is not effective for the current bin location, even if you have selected it.

Item Restrictions

Select one of the following options to indicate the item restriction status of the bin location:

  • None – Indicates the bin location has no item restrictions, that is, the bin location can store any item.

  • Specific Item – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a specific item, that is, the bin location can only store a specific item.

    To specify the item, select an item from the choose from list in the Item field on the right side.

  • Single Item Only – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a single item, that is, the bin location can only store one item.

    You cannot specify which item it is. The first item you put in the bin location becomes the single item. You can view the item in the Current Item field on the right side.

    Note Note

    Once you have put the single item in the bin location, you cannot place another kind of item in it unless either of the following situations arises:

    • There is no inventory of the single item in the bin location.

    • There is negative inventory of the single item in the bin location.

      In this case, if you place another kind of item in the bin location, SAP Business One still allows you to receive the original single item till the quantity reaches zero.

  • Specific Item Group – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a specific item group, that is, the bin location can only store items from a specific item group.

    To specify the item group, select an item group from the dropdown list in the Item Group field on the right.

  • Single Item Group Only – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a single item group, that is, the bin location can only store items from one item group.

    You cannot specify which item group it is. The item group of the first item you put in the bin location becomes the single item group. You can view the item group in the Current Item Group field on the right.

    Note Note

    Once you have put items from the single item group in the bin location, you cannot place items from another item group in it unless either of the following situations arises:

    • There is no inventory of the single item group in the bin location.

    • There is negative inventory of the single item group in the bin location.

      In this case, if you place items from another item group in the bin location, SAP Business One still allows you to receive the items from the original item group till the quantity reaches zero.

UoM Restrictions

Select one of the following options to indicate the UoM restriction status of the bin location:

  • None – Indicates the bin location has no UoM restrictions, that is, the bin location can store items with any UoM.

  • Specific UoM – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a specific UoM, that is, the bin location can only store items with a specific UoM.

    To specify the UoM, select a UoM from the choose from list in the UoMfield on the right side.

  • Single UoM Only – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a single UoM, that is, the bin location can only store items with the same UoM.

    You cannot specify which UoM it is. The UoM of the first item you put in the bin location becomes the single UoM. You can view the UoM in the Current UoM field on the right side.

    Note Note

    Once you have put one or more items with a single UoM in the bin location, you cannot place any item with another UoM in it unless either of the following situations arises:

    • All items using the current UoM in the bin location have zero inventories.

    • Each item using this single UoM in the bin location has negative inventory.

      In this case, if you place items with another UoM in the bin location, SAP Business One still allows you to receive items with the original single UoM until the quantity for each item reaches zero.

  • Specific UoM Group – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a specific UoM group, that is, the bin location can only store items with a specific UoM group.

    To specify the UoM, select a UoM from the choose from list in the UoM Group field on the right side.

  • Single UoM Group Only – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a single UoM group, that is, the bin location can only store items with the same UoM group.

    You cannot specify which UoM group it is. The UoM group of the first item you put in the bin location becomes the single UoM group. You can view the UoM group in the Current UoM Group field on the right side.

    Note Note

    Once you have put one or more items with a single UoM group in the bin location, you cannot place any item with another UoM group in it unless either of the following situations arises:

    • All items using the current UoM group in the bin location have zero inventories.

    • Each item using this single UoM group in the bin location has negative inventory.

      In this case, if you place items with another UoM group in the bin location, SAP Business One still allows you to receive items with the original single UoM group until the quantity for each item reaches zero.

Batch Restrictions

Select either of the following options to indicate the batch restriction status of the bin location:

  • None – Indicates the bin location has no batch restrictions, that is, the bin location can store any items regardless of its batch information.

  • Single Batch – Indicates the bin location is restricted to a single batch, that is, the bin location can only store items from one batch.

    You cannot specify which batch it is. The batch of the first item you put in the bin location becomes the single batch. You can view the batch in the Current Batch field at the right side.

    Note Note

    If you restrict a bin location to a single batch, you cannot store non-batch items in the bin location.

    Once you have put a batch in the bin location, you cannot place another batch in it until the inventory of the existing batch reduces to zero.

Transaction Restrictions

Select one of the following options to indicate the transaction restriction status of the bin location:

  • None – Indicates the bin location has no transaction restrictions, that is, the bin location can be used in any relevant transactions.

  • All Transactions – Indicates the bin location is restricted from all transactions, that is, the bin location cannot be used in any transactions.

  • Inbound Transactions – Indicates the bin location is restricted from inbound transactions, that is, the bin location cannot be used to store any incoming flow of goods.

  • Outbound Transactions – Indicates the bin location is restricted from outbound transactions, that is, the bin location cannot be used during the issuing of goods.

    Note Note

    If you have restricted a bin location from inbound or outbound transactions, you can still use the bin location in inventory transfer, counting and posting documents.

  • All Except Inventory Transfer and Counting – Indicates the bin location is restricted to inventory transfer, counting and posting only. That is, the bin location can only be used during inventory transfer, counting and posting.

Last Updated On

Displays the last date on which you updated the transaction restrictions of the bin location.

The date is shown or updated only after you have chosen the Add or Update pushbutton in the window.

Reason

Enter a reason for the transaction restrictions of the bin location.

Note Note

When there is a transaction restriction, you must specify the reason. If you have selected None in the Transaction Restrictions field, you cannot enter a reason here.

From the lists of existing attribute codes, select the codes that are relevant to the bin location.

To add a new attribute code, enter the code in the corresponding attribute field and press Ctrl + Tab on your keyboard.
