Cannot remove cost center linked to G/L account

Diagnosis

In the Cost Centers — Setup window, you have displayed a cost center and chosen, either from the Data menu or from the context menu, the option Remove. However, this cost center is linked to a G/L account (in the Chart of Accounts window, the checkbox Distribution Rule is selected and the code of the distribution rule that contains the cost center appears in the field next to it).

You can remove only those cost centers that are not linked to G/L accounts, journal entries, or documents. Removing cost centers that were linked to journal entries or documents may lead to inconsistencies in various reports.

  1. From the SAP Business One Main Menu, choose:   Financials   Chart of Accounts  .

  2. In the Chart of Accounts window select the G/L account linked to the cost center you want to delete. The code of the distribution rule that contains the cost center appears next to the Distribution Rule checkbox.

  3. From the dropdown list, select the blank value and choose the Update button.

  4. Repeat steps #2 and #3 for all the G/L accounts linked to the cost center you want to delete.

  5. From the SAP Business One Main Menu, choose:   Financials   Cost Accounting   Cost Centers  . In the Cost Centers — Setup window, display the cost center to be deleted.

  6. From the Data menu, choose Remove.
