For more information about automatic allocation, see Automatic Bin Location Allocation in Receipts.

The following procedure explains how to manually allocate items that are managed by serials or batches to bin locations:

Prerequisites

You have enabled bin locations for your warehouse.

Procedure

Allocating Serial or Batch Items Managed on Every Transaction to Bin Locations

If a serial or batch item is managed on every transaction, SAP Business One requires you to record the serial or batch information whenever there is an inventory movement of the item.

For more information, see Managing Serial Numbers on Every Transaction and Managing Batch Numbers on Every Transaction.

To indicate that a serial or batch item is managed on every transaction, in the Management Method field in the Item Master Data window, select On Every Transaction.

To allocate serial or batch items managed on every transaction to bin locations, proceed as follows:

  1. From the SAP Business One Main Menu, open a receipt document.

  2. In the receipt document, specify the serial or batch item, quantity and warehouse.

  3. Open the Serial Numbers - Setup or the Batches - Setup window.

To do so, place the cursor in the Quantity field of the receipt document and proceed accordingly:

    • Inventory transfer

      • Right-click and choose Allocate Serials/Batches to Whse.

      • From the Goto menu, choose Allocate Serials/Batches to Whse.

    • All documents with the receiving of items, excluding inventory transfer

For a list of receipt documents, see Receipts to Bin Locations.

      • Press Ctrl + Tab.

      • Right-click and choose Batch/Serial Numbers.

      • From the Goto menu, choose Batch/Serial Numbers.

  4. To specify the serial or batch information for the items and allocate them to bin locations, proceed in either of the following ways:

    • For serial items

In the Serial Numbers - Setup window, specify the serial information in the Serial Number field. Then, in the Bin Location field, select the bin location where you want to place the serial item.

Alternatively, you can create the serial numbers using the Automatic Creation pushbutton. In the Bin Location field of the Automatic Serial Numbers Creation window, you can specify a bin location to store all serial items.

      Note Note

After you have allocated the serial items to bin locations, you can still change the bin location allocation centrally using the Reallocate Bin Locations pushbutton in the Serial Numbers - Setup window.

For more information, see Bin Location Reallocation for Serial Numbers Window.

      End of the note.
    • For batch items

In the Batches - Setup window, specify the batch information in the Batch and Quantity fields. Then, in the Bin Location Allocation field, click Link Arrow (Link Arrow) to open the Bin Location Allocation - Receipt window, where you can select the bin locations in which you want to place the batch items.

Alternatively, you can create the batches using the Automatic Creation pushbutton. In the Automatic Batch Creation window, you can specify a bin location to store all batches in the Bin Location field.

  5. In the Serial Numbers - Setup or the Batches - Setup window, choose OK. The window closes.

  6. To add the receipt document, choose Add in the document.

Allocating Serial or Batch Items Managed on Release Only to Bin Locations

If a serial or batch item is managed on release only, SAP Business One requires you to record the serial or batch information only when the item is issued. For the receipt of the item, you can decide whether to maintain the serial or batch information or not.

For more information, see Managing Serial Numbers on Release Only and Managing Batch Numbers on Release Only.

To indicate a serial or batch item is managed on release only, select On Release Only in the Management Method field in the Item Master Data window.

To allocate serial or batch items managed on release only to bin locations, do either of the following:

  • If you want to record the serial or batch information, proceed according to the steps in the previous section: Allocating Serial or Batch Items Managed on Every Transaction to Bin Locations.

  • If you do not want to record the serial or batch information, proceed according to the steps in Allocating Regular Items to Bin Locations.
