Inventory opening balances refer to the financial quantities of your inventory at the beginning of a new financial period.

You can set up inventory opening balances at either of the following points in time:

  • As initial settings before you have any inventory transactions. This gives you a picture of your inventory from the moment you start to work with SAP Business One.

  • If you were not able to enter inventory opening balances as initial settings, you also can enter the balances later on, when inventory transactions already exist in the application.

Procedure

  1. In the SAP Business One Main Menu, choose   Inventory   Inventory Opening Balances, Inventory Tracking, and Inventory Posting  .

  2. Select the Inventory Opening Balances tab.

  3. Specify the item or items for which you want to enter opening balances.

  4. To allow initial quantities with a price value of 0, select the checkbox Allow Inventory Opening Balances Without Price.

    Note Note

If you choose to allow inventory opening balances without a price, the Last Purchase Price is not updated for an inventory posting with the value 0.

    End of the note.
  5. Select the price source for the items.

Item prices from the price source you specify here appear in the Inventory Opening Balances Window after you choose the OK button.

  6. Choose the OK button.

  7. In the Inventory Opening Balances window, make an entry in the Open Inventory Account field.

  8. Enter the inventory opening balances data, including initial quantities and the corresponding prices for the items.

  9. To record additional information in the journal entry that will be posted when you save the data, use the Reference and Details fields.

The Reference information is copied to the Ref. 1 field in the journal entry. The Details information is copied to the Remarks field in the journal entry.

To see a preview of the journal entry, right-click either of the fields and choose Journal Entry Preview.

  10. To save your data, choose the Add button.
