Defining a Secondary Database (SAP Sybase IQ)
The connection of a secondary database (SAP Sybase IQ) in the Archive Information System (AS) is available as an additional function in SAP NetWeaver ILM.
Note
For more information about the Archive Information System, see SAP Library for SAP NetWeaver under .
SAP Sybase IQ is a highly optimized analysis server that was developed specifically to provide faster results on any standard hardware or operating system for business intelligence, analysis, and data warehousing solutions that are critical to business operations
By defining a secondary database in the Archive Information System, you can specify whether you want to save the structure table to the archive information structures on an SAP Sybase IQ database or to the standard database of the SAP system.
You have a license for SAP Sybase IQ, Enterprise Edition. For more information about SAP Sybase IQ, see :
Introduction to Sybase IQ
You have activated the Information Lifecycle Management
business function.
You as the database administrator have all the necessary authorizations for executing a data transfer to SAP Sybase IQ. For more information about authorizations and configuration, see SAP Note 1737415
.
You are on the initial screen of the Archive Information System (transaction SARI
).
Choose .
Choose the SAP Sybase IQ database using the input help.
Note
The input helps contains only SAP Sybase IQ databases that have been entered in transaction DBCO
. The SAP Sybase IQ database is a SYB
connection type.
Save your entries.
As of now, all newly created archive information structures are saved to the secondary database (SAP Sybase IQ). If necessary, you can override the database connection for each archive information structure.
Note
Note that the specification of a secondary database for an information structure is valid only if the information structures have not yet been activated, that is the the tables have not yet been created. If a newly defined SAP Sybase IQ database is to be valid for previously activated archive information structures, you need to first deactivate the archive information structures, and delete the structure table(s) and the archive information structure program. After you have done this, reactivate the archive information structure.
You can delete the table or tables and the program in the Archive Retrieval Configurator (ARC) using the Utilities
menu.
If necessary, you can override the defined database connection for each archive information structure.
Choose Customizing for the Archive Information System. You are on the initial screen of the ARC.
Select an archive information structure for which you want to change the database connection.
Choose .
Change the specification for the database connection.
Save your entries.
Note
Note that you cannot change the database connection until you have deactivated the archive information structure and then deleted the structure table or tables and the program for the archive information structure.
In the Technical Data
of the ARC, you can check on which database the information structure is stored for a specific archive information structure.
Standard Database
DB Connection
with specification of the name of the SAP Sybase IQ database
If you define an archive information structure on a secondary database (SAP Sybase IQ), you still have the option of partitioning archive information structures and using fixed table names.
Note
If you use fixed table names that you want to delete at a later time (for example, because the archive information structure was changed or needs to be deleted), you need to delete the table manually in the SAP system as well as from SAP Sybase IQ.
For more information about the partitioning of archive information structures, see SAP Library for SAP NetWeaver under .
Note that in a distributed system landscape, you can specify different users or owners (Sybase Central) for tables with the same name in different systems.
For more information about Sybase Central, see .
