Destroying Data in a Live Application System
SAP NetWeaver ILM
makes it possible for you to destroy data for which the retention period has expired and on which there is no legal hold.
In a live system, you can destroy the following types of data:
Live data from the database
For example, you can destroy data that for data protection reasons may no longer be available after a certain (maximum) period of time. Data that is still in the database after the required retention period has expired, may also be destroyed.
Archived data (archive files) from an ILM Store
You destroy archived data either because the maximum retention period has expired and the destruction is mandatory or because the minimum retention period has expired.
If, for reasons of data privacy, you need to destroy data that is not archived, use Data Destruction
(transaction ILM_DESTRUCTION
). Data destruction is performed using an ILM object to which either a data destruction object or an ILM-enabled object has been assigned.
For more information, see: Destroying Data from the Database of the Application System
To include snapshots and archive files with an unknown expiration date in the data destruction runs, you need to specify their expiration date in the system.
For more information, see: Defining Expiration Dates for Snapshots and Archive Files
If you want to destroy archived data that is stored in the ILM store according to ILM rules, you use the SAP NetWeaver ILM
data destruction functions.
