Making Archive Files from the Legacy System Available in the RW System
To be able to convert and store archive files from a legacy system in the Retention Warehouse system in an ILM-compliant manner, you first need to make all the required data available in the RW system. To do so, you need an RFC connection to the legacy system. Choose one of the following options:
Alternatives for Transferring Archive Files |
Description |
|---|---|
Transfer only archive administration data to the RW system |
The archive files remain in the file system or Content Repository of the legacy system. If the RW system can access the file system or Content Repository during archive file conversion, it is not necessary to transfer the archive files to the file system or the RW system. |
You have the option of transferring the content of the archives files as well as the archive administration data to the RW system. |
If you need to transfer the content of the archive files to the file system of the RW system, you can schedule this optional step.
Transferring the content of archive files can affect system performance if a large amount of data is involved. End of the caution. |
In the standard system, the files that the Context Data Extractor (CDE)
creates for archiving object SN_GEN
contain the units of measure and currencies for the legacy system. When you transfer the archive administration data to archiving object SN_GEN
, the system compares units of measure and currencies from the legacy system with those from the RW system. The system adds those that are missing in the RW system. We recommend that you check the settings of the units of measure and currencies in a preparatory step (as described in the section Prerequisites
) and correct them if necessary.
If you transfer archive administration data to the RW system in multiple runs during the archiving phase, make sure you adhere to the following sequence each time:
1: Metadata (SN_META
) – 2: Snapshots (SN_*
) – 3: Transaction data (*.ADK
)
You have established the required system connections and made the preparatory settings.

In ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit
, choose .
Under Connections to Legacy Systems
, select the legacy system ID (double-click).
Note
If you cannot find the legacy system listed under Connections to Legacy System
, on the toolbar, select Connections to Legacy System
and enter the system ID, the client, and the RFC connection to the legacy system.
Under Sessions and Files
, select the archiving sessions or archive files whose archive administration data you want to transfer.
Choose Data Transfer
.
Schedule the execution of data transfer as follows:
Input |
Description |
|---|---|
New logical path: |
You have the option of storing the archive administration data of the selected archiving sessions and archive files under their own path in the database of the RW system. To do so, enter the logical path you created in the RW system ( |
Transfer file content |
In addition to the archive administration data, you can also transfer the content of the archive files. If you activate this option, the system copies the contents of the archive files to the new archive files of the same name (in the file system of the RW system). |
Reset storage status: |
This option has the following effect:
|
Flow control |
|
Detail log |
This option causes the system to also issue log entries for success messages (except when there is an error) when archive administration data is transferred. |
Start date and time |
Time-based specifications for starting data transfer |
Spool parameters |
Specifications for print output in SAP background processing |
