Working with Mirrored Tasks
If tasks or phases of a project are influenced by another task (see original task) in a different project, the project leader of the dependent project must be informed about changes made to the original task. For this purpose, you can include the original task as a mirrored task in the structure of the existing project.
The following figure explains the scenario:

Project Linkage Using Mirrored Tasks
Your system administrator has permitted the use of mirrored tasks for the current project type in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under .
You need at least Display
authorization for the original task to be able to create a mirrored task. To display the original task, you also need Display
authorization for the project definition to which the original task belongs.
If the task name is to be changed automatically when copied from the original task to the mirrored task, you have created a corresponding implementation of method CHANGE_DESCRIPTION_MIRR_TASK
in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under .
Note the prerequisites under Alerts if you want the system to be able to inform the responsible persons about changes.
To keep track of dates that have changed in the original task when you view a mirrored task in read-only mode, you have made a corresponding entry for area 0002 Master Switches
, setting 0020 Notify When Original Task Dates Have Changed
in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under .
When you create a mirrored task, the system copies the task name from the original task to the mirrored task. Depending on your Customizing settings, the name can be adjusted automatically during the copy process (see Prerequisites). You can change the copied name in the mirrored task.
The system transfers the Earliest Start
and Latest Finish
of the original task and uses them as the fixed start and finish date of the mirrored task. You cannot change these dates in the mirrored task. If they are outside the limits of the project element superior to the mirrored task, the system issues a warning. If you create relationships between the mirrored task and other tasks, the mirrored task dates influence the dates of the linked tasks during scheduling. If the dates of the original task change, the dates of the mirrored task are adjusted automatically and the person responsible for the project element superior to the mirrored task is informed. This automatic adjustment occurs only when you open the mirrored task in edit mode, and you must perform a save operation to keep the date changes. In read-only mode, you only see an icon and a message next to each changed date, indicating that the corresponding date has changed in the original task.
Original task data, such as the responsible role or resource, dates, duration and work, status, priority and relevancy for approval, is displayed in the Detail
view of the mirrored task as well as the Table
view of the project containing the mirrored task. You cannot change this data in the mirrored task. If the original task has subtasks, they are not visible in the dependent project.
You can make the following changes to a mirrored task:
Enter a name
Change authorizations
Set a severity manually
Edit relationships with other tasks (see Edit relationships with other tasks)
Delete the mirrored task
This also deletes the link to the original task.
If the original task is deleted, the person responsible for the project element superior to the mirrored task is informed. The person responsible for the original task is informed when the mirrored task is created and deleted.
To create a mirrored task, proceed as follows:
In the project structure, navigate to the project element below which you want to create a mirrored task.
In the dropdown box above the structure tree, choose Mirrored Task
.
Choose Create
.
Assign an original task.
