You can use this function to compare, edit, or delete drafts created automatically or manually in the Project Editor.

Features

Note Note

Handling of drafts is only supported when you work with one or several of the following data sets:

  • Organizational Data

  • Control Data

  • User Fields

  • Customer Data

End of the note.
  • Automatic Loading

The system automatically lists drafts saved by you in the SAP database. The system includes information about the creation date and the data sets that the drafts contain.

  • Load Draft

Choose the Load Draft (Load Draft) pushbutton to load drafts saved locally to the Draft Workbench. The system includes information about the creation date and which data sets the drafts contain.

  • Edit Draft

You can select a draft you want to work on and choose the Open Draft (Open Draft) pushbutton to open it in the Project Editor.

  • Delete Draft

By selecting a draft and choosing the Delete (Delete) pushbutton you can delete drafts saved to the database.

    Note Note

If required, locally saved drafts must be deleted manually from the local storage location.

    End of the note.
  • Compare Drafts

You can compare a draft with the operative project or with another draft.

Activities

To open the Draft Workbench, on the SAP Easy Access screen, choose the menu path   Logistics   Project System   Project   Handling Large Projects   Draft Workbench  .

Comparing Drafts

To execute a comparison of either two drafts or of a draft with the operative project, you must select a draft or the database data as the lead, before you start the comparison. The leading structure defines the project hierarchy the system displays in the structure tree. You can change the structure that leads during the data comparison.

  • Comparing with the Database

When you want to compare a draft with the operative project in the database, you choose the Compare with Database (Compare with Database) pushbutton. A dialog box prompts you to select whether you want to see the draft hierarchy in the structure tree or the hierarchy of the actual project structure as saved in the database. You select a single line to be the lead structure and choose the Execute (Execute) pushbutton.

  • Comparing Two Drafts

To compare two drafts, you must press the CTRL key while you select the two drafts you want to compare before choosing the Compare Draft Version (Compare Draft Version) pushbutton. A dialog box prompts you to select one draft as the source for the hierarchy displayed in the structure tree.

While comparing drafts, you can change which one is the lead structure. If you are comparing a draft to the operative project in the database, in the comparison screen you choose the Compare
with Database (Compare with Database) pushbutton to switch that which is the lead structure. If you are comparing two drafts, on the comparison screen choose the Compare Draft Version (Compare Draft Version) pushbutton to switch the structure that leads.

Analyzing the Comparison: the Hierarchy

The system displays the comparison results in a split screen with the hierarchy on the left. Navigating through the hierarchy, you can find the status icons the system displays, to show the similarities and differences within the project definitions, work breakdown structure elements (WBSEs) as well as individual networks and activities, and activity elements. The hierarchy displays columns containing these objects' identification and description as well as the data sets under comparison. Icons indicate the differences found in the data comparison.

  • Structural Difference

The Red LED (Red LED) icon indicates a structural difference between the drafts. This means that the object does not exist in the other structure to which the lead structure is compared.

  • Field Difference

The Field Difference (Field Difference) icon indicates that at least one field differs between the two structures. The system can display this icon as long as the drafts meet each of the following requirements:

    • The object exists in both structures.

    • The data set exists in both structures.

    • You have at least display authorizations for the object.

  • Complete Match

The Complete Match (Complete Match) icon indicates that all fields of the data set match. The system can display this icon as long as the structures meet each of the following requirements:

    • The object exists in both structures.

    • The data set exists in both structures.

    • You have at least display authorizations for the object.

  • Data not available

The Data not available (Data not available) icon indicates that the data set is not included in one of the drafts or that you do not have authorization to display the data. For the system to display this icon, the object must exist in both structures.

You can expand the hierarchy and select different objects. You can use the sort and filter functions to adjust the field comparison. The system displays a detailed field comparison of the object selected in the hierarchy on the right-hand side of the screen.

Analyzing the Comparison: the Data Sets

On the comparison screen, the hierarchy of the lead structure is displayed on the left. On the right, you can use the tab pages to view the comparison results for each data set. The system displays the information for each data set on an individual tab page. This page contains the following two columns for each structure:

  • The fields in the data set.

  • The values for these fields in the drafts or in the database and the draft.

To make comparison on field level easier, the system displays an operand icon indicating if the field values match. You can use this operand for sorting or filtering.

  • The Green equals (Green equals) icon indicates that the values for the field match.

  • The Red does not equal (Red does not equal) icon indicates that the values for the field do not match.

More Information

The following table contains information on the Business Add-Ins (BAdIs) which you can use to enhance this function:

Business Add-Ins

Use

Make Settings for Project Editor (BADI_PS_HLP_MD_ENTRY)

You can use this BAdI to prevent the saving of drafts. To activate this BAdI, in Customizing for Project System, choose   Handling Large Projects   Business Add-Ins   Make Settings for Project Editor  .
