Generate Project Management Roles Based on Strategic Demand
With this function you can do the estimated capacity planning for the project according to the capacity views defined for it. Once the planning is finalized, you can transfer this planning data to the operational role. The transferring of the planning data to the underlying project includes the following:
Creation of new roles in the underlying project for the capacity category/group at your discretion and transfer the planning data to the operational data in the role.
Transfer planning data in the portfolio item to the already existing role for the linked project.
You can enter the demand for the role in the project.
Note
If the capacity planning data is transferred to this existing role, the demand is overwritten.

checkbox for at least one of the capacity views in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under .
For a portfolio item, the capacity data is maintained in the capacity planning area. Here the data is segregated into capacity category and capacity groups according to your requirement. The capacity data entered has also the classification based on the type of data called capacity views.
If you selected the Export to Proj. Mgmt
checkbox for certain capacity views in Customizing, the capacity data entered to these views can be exported to roles.
Note
The data transfer from capacity planning to the role is only supported for one occurrence. That is, once the system has transferred the data for a specific category, group, or view to a role, you cannot re-transfer this data once again.
Note
When you enter capacity data for an item on a monthly basis, the system calculates the data for the whole month even when the start of the item is not the beginning of the month. When you transfer capacity data to a role, the system considers the dates for role start and finish. If the role start is not the beginning of the month, only part of the capacity data is transferred to the role.
To export the capacity data, on the Item Details
screen, choose . This leads you to a mapping list where you can enter the mapping.
If you have to create a new role for the capacity data entered in the capacity planning, in the drop down list of the Related Action
column, you can select Create .
In the mapping table, the Role Name
is
defaulted to the capacity category description. You can edit the description and overwrite the default name.
If you wish to transfer the data to an existing role in the underlying project, in the drop down list of the Related Action
column, you select Existing Role
. You can select roles available from the drop down in the Role
Name
column. If you choose an existing role, the system fills out Role Type
and Role Function
by default.
Once the mapping is done, you can verify or save. When you save, the system transfers the demand.
