  • Start and Finish dates – indicates the period affected by the changes you make.

  • The icons specify whether the amount entered should be added to (Add), subtracted from (Subtract), or whether it should replace (Set) the existing amount.

  • The time unit may be different from the unit you used in resource-role assignment, but the system performs the necessary conversion for you.

Example

Your selection in the Period Breakdown field is the basis for the calculation. In the following examples, consider the work unit as hours.

  1. Apply assigned effort to complete interval

In this case, the system calculates the daily average amount with applied assigned effort and the number of working days between the valid from date and valid to date. It then uses this to calculate the amount per month or week according to the number of working days in the month or week. This option applies the assigned effort according to the number of working days.

You have chosen Complete Interval in the Period Type field. The valid from date is November 1, 2005. The valid to date is December 28, 2005. You enter work effort of 360 hours. The system calculates the number of working days from November 1 to December 28, which is 36 days (18 in November and 18 from December 1 to December 28 as per US calendar). The average daily amount, is 10 hours. The system adds, subtracts, or sets 10 hours for each working day in November and the working days from December 1 to December 28. This means that the system adds or subtracts 180 hours in November and 180 hours in December for projects with a monthly time unit format.

For projects with weekly time unit format, the system adds, subtracts, or sets 10 hours for each working day of the week.

  2. Apply work effort per month or week

In this case, the system applies a fixed amount to each month or week, regardless of the number of working days.

You have chosen Per Month or Per Week in the Period Type dropdown list. The valid from date is November 1, 2005. The valid to date is December 28, 2005. You enter work effort of 40 hours, the system adds, subtracts, or sets 40 hours in November and December for projects with a monthly format, even if November 2005 has 18 working days and December 2005 has 21 working days as per US calendar.

For projects with a weekly time unit format, the system adds, subtracts, or sets 40 hours for each week in November and the weeks from December 1 to December 28, despite the fact there are only three working days in last week of December.

  3. Apply work effort per day

In this case, the system uses the work effort per day to calculate the amount of days per month or week. This option applies a fixed amount consistently, according to the number of working days.

You have chosen Per Day in the Period Type field. The valid from date is November 1, 2005. The valid to date is December 28, 2005. You enter an amount of 10 hours. The system adds, subtracts, or sets 10 hours for all working days in November and for all working days from December 1 to December 28. This means that the system adds or subtracts 180 hours in November, and 180 hours in December for projects with a monthly time unit format.

For projects with a weekly time unit format, the system adds, subtracts, or sets 10 hours for each working day of the week.
