 Single-Level Structure Comparison of BOM Versions

Use

You can compare different bill of material (BOM) versions to obtain an overview of what has been changed from one version to the next.

Features

The structure comparison of BOM versions provides you with the following information:

  • Changes that were made to the attributes of the BOM header

  • Added or deleted document links for the BOM header

  • Changes that were made to BOM items including changed components

  • Added or deleted document links for BOM items

  • Added or deleted document links for materials

  • Added or deleted manufacturer part numbers for materials

Single-Level Comparison of BOM Versions

On the BOM overview screen, you select two BOM versions and choose Compare to execute the single-level comparison of two versions.

The differences are then displayed in a detailed results list.

The single-level comparison includes the attributes and document links of BOMs, items, header materials, and components. Links to manufacturer part numbers are also compared for material versions.

Status changes and categorizations are not taken into account.

If differences exist, the system displays the type of change of an item in an additional column marked with a delta in the item overview.

Selecting individual items enables you to restrict the content of the detailed results list for the comparison of BOM versions. If you do not select an item, the system also displays the changes to the BOM and header material in the detailed results list.

The table filter provides a number of different display options:

  • Lower-Level Elements of Deleted Item

    Changed links to documents and manufacturer part numbers are displayed for new or changed items. You can also display the lower-level elements of a deleted item.

  • Attribute of Old Component

    For a changed component assignment you can display the differences between the attributes of the old and new components.

  • Document Link of Old Component

    For a changed component assignment you can display the differences between the document links of the old and new components.

  • Manufacturer Part Number of Old Component

    For a changed component assignment you can display the differences between the links to manufacturer part numbers of the old and new components.

The menu options All , New , Changed , Deleted , and All Excluding 'No Change’ allow you to set the type of change directly in the table filter.

Structuring the Detailed Results List for the Comparison of BOM Versions

  • Element

    This column contains either the BOM header or the BOM item for which the different changes were found.

  • Delta

    This column displays the type of change.

  • Attribute

    This column contains the name of the changed attribute of a BOM, item, or material. Links to documents, manufacturer part numbers, or components are also interpreted as attributes.

  • Name of newer version

    This column contains the name and the attribute value from the newer version.

  • Name of older version

    This column contains the attribute value from the older version.

You can also filter the comparison result details by choosing the Change Table Filter pushbutton and selecting the exact information that you require, for example only all new items, or only linked documents.
