Function documentationDefinition of Queries

You can use this function to define a new BCV query (see BCV Query) from scratch for Business Context Viewer (BCV). To define a query, you must specify which objects the system selects in which data source, which fields of these objects the system returns and how the system processes the returned data. The existence of queries is a prerequisite for the definition of query views (see Query View) that the system uses to display the results of query processing (see Processing of Queries).

Prerequisites

You can define a new query only if the following applies:

  • You have the necessary authorizations, which are granted to you in one of the following ways:

    • In the Role Maintenance (PFCG) transaction, you are assigned to the BCV Administrator (SAP_BCV_ADMIN) role.

    • On the SAP NetWeaver Portal, you are assigned to the BCV Administrator (com.sap.pct.bs_fnd.BCV_ADMIN) role.

  • You have defined a search connector or you use one predefined by SAP. For more information, see Definition of Search Connectors.

  • As an optional prerequisite, you have defined meanings, or use ones predefined by SAP. Fore more information, see Definition of Meanings.

Activities

You can define queries in the following ways:

  • To define a query in the configuration center, choose Define BCV Queries, or in the search connector maintenance, by choosing Create Query.

  • To define a query in Customizing, choose Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications Next navigation step Business Context Viewer Next navigation step Query Management Next navigation step Define BCV Queries End of the navigation path.

Recommendation Recommendation

Using the configuration center is the recommended approach to making configuration settings in BCV. You should use Customizing only in exceptional cases. For more information, see Configuration Center.
