Use

You create roles in the Portal Content Studio using the Role Wizard, and then build structure hierarchies and assign content objects to the role in the Role Editor.

Prerequisites

Roles are stored in the Portal Catalog. Before you create roles, you should create the folders in which you want to store your roles in the Portal Catalog.

Procedure

...

       1.      In the top-level navigation bar, choose Content Administration ® Portal Content.

       2.      Right-click the folder in which you want to create the role and choose New ® Role.

The Role Wizard opens in the Edit Area of the Portal Content Studio.

       3.      Enter the following data in step 1 “General Properties”:

Property

Description

Role Name (required)

This name is displayed in the Portal Catalog, in lists, and in tables. It may contain up to 40 characters including blanks.

Role ID (required)

A role is uniquely identified by its ID. For more information see Structure linkObject IDs and Namespace Prefixes.

Role ID prefix (optional)

You define a prefix when you want to define a namespace for your objects. See also Structure linkObject IDs and Namespace Prefixes.

Master language (required)

The master language is the original language of an object in the Portal Catalog.

Description (optional)

A description of the role.

       4.      Choose Next.

       5.      In step 2 you can check the settings you made.

       6.      Choose Finish.

The role is created and is displayed in the Portal Catalog.

       7.      Open the new role in the Role Editor. The Property Editor is also displayed.

At this point the role does not yet contain any content objects.

       8.      Create a role hierarchy:

     Create new folders in the Role Editor by clicking the New Folder button. Enter a name and ID for the new folders and choose Create New Folder. The folder is created in the role.

     Add content objects (iViews, pages, worksets, roles) either directly to the role or to the created folders:

                                                  i.       Select the role folder to which you want to add the content object.

                                                ii.       In the Portal Catalog, right-click the object that you want to add to the role and choose Add <Object> to Role ® Copy/Delta Link.

       9.      Use the Property Editor to adjust or change role properties.

Note

You do not need to explicitly save changes made in the Role Editor. Changes made with the Property Editor must be saved explicitly by clicking the Save button.

       1.      Changing roles

You can change existing roles. You can do this with both your own roles and with those delivered by SAP. For more information see Changing Roles and Worksets.

       2.      Role Permissions

You can launch the Permission Editor from the Role Editor in order to define the role permissions for administrators, for end users, and for role assignment. For more information about permissions see Structure linkPortal Permissions and Structure linkPermission Levels.

To launch the Permission Editor, from the Display dropdown list, choose Permissions.
