What is a Query-Based Taxonomy?
For query-based taxonomies, a category is defined by a search query. A search query can consist of a single word or a combination of words that are linked with the Boolean operators AND and OR. The search can be for document attributes such as author, title, or creation date, for document content, or for a combination of the two.

The search query >‘Italy’ AND ‘Rome’ AND ‘government’< defines a category into which all documents that contain all three words are classified. However, in order that a document that corresponds to this search query can be assigned to the ‘international’ category, it must first match the queries B (Politics) and A (News) of the superordinate categories.
