Use

Uses can edit documents stored in Knowledge Management as follows:

·        Online in the portal

·        Locally on the client PC

Features

Online Editing

You can edit documents with the MIME type text/* directly in the portal (online).

Parameters for Online Editing

Parameter

Required

Description

Supported Mime Types for Editing

Yes

Specifies the MIME types that can be edited online.

By default, these are text/plain,text/html,text/xml.

Note

Since the portal only provides a simple text editor for online editing, there is little point in entering MIME types that are not of type text.

Local Editing

There are two components for editing documents that require a PC application.

Parameters for Local Editing

Parameter

Required

Description

ActiveX Version Check

No

If you are using ActiveX and this parameter has been activated, the system checks the ActiveX version used on the client PC each time that the Local Editing function is launched. If it is obsolete, the system automatically installs an up-to-date version.

Deactivate this parameter if users access the portal through Windows Terminal Servers.

If users do not have permission to install software on their PCs, you must perform the installation manually. For more information about manual installation of ActiveX, see SAP Note 755581.

Active Component

Yes

Specifies the component used for local editing.

This can be a Java Applet or ActiveX.

Applet: Requires the installation of a Java plug-in and the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 on the client PC.

This component can be used for Internet Explorer and the Netscape Browser.

ActiveX: No additional installation needed. Only supported by Internet Explorer.

Java Runtime Version

Yes

Specifies the Java Runtime version used.

Possible values are 1.3 or 1.4.

You only need to make this specification if you are using a Java Applet.

SAP recommends that you use version 1.4 because it can also be used with HTTPS.

Activities

The most important MIME types for online editing are already entered in the KM standard configuration. For the list of these MIME types, see Content Management ® Utilities ® Editing ® Online Editing.

In the KM standard configuration, ActiveX is used for local editing. If you want to the applet instead, you have to modify the configuration for local editing. You find the configuration under Content Management ® Utilities ® Editing ® Local Editing.

Settings in the browser when using ActiveX

If you are using ActiveX, certain settings need to be made for the users' browsers.

Call up the security settings for the browser: Choose Tools ® Internet Options ® Security ® Custom Level in the menu bar. Make the following settings:

Download signed ActiveX controls = Enable

Download unsigned ActiveX controls = Disable

Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe = Disable

Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins = Enable

Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting = Enable
