Commands for Category Folders
You copy or move category folders in order to restructure a taxonomy.
When you copy or move category folders, the system also copies or moves all the subordinate folders. If search requests are defined for the folders, these are also copied or moved.
The following table shows the effects of the Copy and Move commands on the document classification:
Copying and Moving Category Folders in Taxonomies
Taxonomy Type |
Copy |
Move |
Example-Based Taxonomy |
Old branch: no effect; all manual and automatic classifications are retained New branch: The system makes no classifications in the new branch. All categories are empty and have no training documents. |
All manual and automatic classifications are retained. After the move, the categories contain the same documents and the same training set as previously. |
Query-Based Taxonomy |
Old branch: The assignment is retained for documents that you assigned manually to a category. New branch: The system copies the query, but does not apply any manual assignments to the new branch. After the copy, the system automatically classifies the entire target taxonomy. The system executes all the search queries defined in the taxonomy and updates the index. After the automatic classification, the same documents as before should be classified in the old branch (in the case of copying within a taxonomy, this applies only if you have not made any changes to the superordinate structure). Since the queries are processed hierarchically, the contents of the categories in the new branch can differ from those in the old branch. |
The search queries are moved with the folders. The manual assignment is retained for documents that you have manually assigned to a category. After the move, the system automatically classifies the entire taxonomy. The system executes all the search queries defined in the taxonomy and updates the index. Since the queries are processed hierarchically, the contents of the categories after the move can differ from those prior to the move. |

The index folder (/taxonomies/<indexname>) cannot be copied or moved.

Category folder in different taxonomy with the same index |
See the table Copying and Moving Category Folders in Taxonomies When you copy a folder from a query-based taxonomy to an example-based taxonomy, the system also copies the queries. In example-based taxonomies, the queries are not evaluated, but they are stored for later use. When you copy a folder from an example-based taxonomy to a query-based taxonomy, the system also copies any existing queries. |

Folder in repository |
The system moves the folder and all subordinate folders. The system deletes the document classifications in the relevant categories and creates links to the relevant documents in the folders in the repository. The documents are retained in the index. |
