Configuring a Servlet Engine User 

Use

In order for the file system repository manager to function properly, the user on which the Windows portal J2EE service is running must run with special permissions. As part of the operating system, this user is responsible for controlling permissions. The permissions of this user must first be checked on WINDOWS^®, and configured if necessary.

 

Prerequisites

You have administrator rights for the host on which the J2EE process of the portal is running.

 

Procedure

 

The steps specified are for a WINDOWS® 2000 system.  Operating-system-specific specifications such as paths and names of settings my differ with other Windows operating systems.

 

Identifying the name of the user on which the J2EE service is running

       1.      Call up the overview of services that are running on Windows. To do this, choose Start ® Settings ® Control Panel ® Administrative Tools ® Services.

Choose the J2EE service.

The name of the J2EE service is constructed as follows:

SAP<SAP system ID>_<J2EE instance number>

You specified the variables <SAP system ID> and <J2EE instance number> during the installation.

       2.      Open the properties dialog box for this service and go to the Log On tab page. You find the name of the user that you configure in the next step here.

 

Configuring the user on which the J2EE service is running

       1.      Open user/password assignment using Start ® Settings ® Control Panel ® Users and Passwords.  Select the user you just identified, and open its properties. Assign it to the administrator group on the Group Membership tab under Others.

This user needs unrestricted access to all documents in the WINDOWS® file system. The administrator group affords unrestricted access.

       2.      Open WINDOWS® 2000 local security policy using Start ® Settings ® Control Panel ® Administrative Tools ® Local Security Policy.

       3.      From the tree structure, choose Security Settings ® Local Policies ® User Rights Assignment.

Open the properties dialog box for the entries Act as part of the operating system and Log on as a service, and add the user identified to both entries.

       4.      Restart WINDOWS®.
