Background documentation Changing the Taxonomy Type Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

If you have created a query-based taxonomy, you can change it to an example-based taxonomy later on. The reverse is also true. This section gives you important information about doing this.

Changing a query-based taxonomy into an example-based taxonomy

When you change a query-based taxonomy into an example-based taxonomy, the search requests are no longer used for automatic classification. You have to train the taxonomy with example documents.

However, the search requests are not deleted. If you decide to reconvert the taxonomy back to a query-based taxonomy later on, you can use the search requests again.

Changing a example-based taxonomy into a query-based taxonomy

When you change an example-based taxonomy into a query-based taxonomy, the training documents no longer used for classification. You have to create a search request for each category so that documents can be classified into the categories.

The assignments of training documents to categories are stored internally in the system but are no longer used. If you decide to reconvert the taxonomy into an example-based taxonomy later on, the training documents are still available and are used again as the basis for automatic classification. The time that you have invested into the training of a taxonomy is not lost forever.
