Portal Roles and ABAP-Based SAP Systems 

If you want to integrate content from ABAP-based applications in your portal role, you can use functions in the portal and in the SAP system with which you can distribute portal roles and user assignments from SAP NetWeaver Portal to a connected ABAP-based SAP system. These functions are intended to assign users and their assigned portal roles a corresponding role in the SAP System. This corresponding role (authorization role) contains the authorizations needed to execute certain functions from the portal. You can perform this function using a distribution function in the portal and a special editing transaction for portal roles in the SAP system.

You can still use existing single and composite role menus as well as authorization profiles from ABAP-based SAP systems when you use SAP NetWeaver Portal. An upload tool for uploading objects (such as roles or transactions) from ABAP-based SAP systems is provided for this purpose. The authorization profiles remain in the backend system and can be used to launch a transaction from the portal.
