Procedure documentation Configuring the SAP Host Agent

Use

You configure the SAP host agent to enable it to start and stop services on each computer system and monitor the status of the computer system.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

In SAP NetWeaver, the SAP Host Agent is installed as part of a regular SAP component installation. You must not install the SAP host Agent.

Prerequisites

Check the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) at service.sap.com/pam to ensure that:

·        Your OS version is on the list of the supported OS versions for SAP NetWeaver, as the Host Agent is not supported by every OS

·        The minimum OS requirement is met before installing the Host Agent

Procedure

1. Installing SAP Host Agent

Install the SAP host agent on a clean system.

To install the host agent, see Monitoring Setup Guide →Downloading and Installing Package SAPHOSTAGENT at the following location: service.sap.com/operationsnw<release> Monitoring.

2. Registering the SAP Host Agent in the SAP System Landscape Directory (SLD)

The SAP Host Agent uses the sldreg executable to register itself with an SLD server during agent startup. The registration mechanism requires a valid sldreg connection file, slddest.cfg in the directory DIR_GLOBAL (default: DIR_EXECUTABLE, UNIX: /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe, Windows: %ProgramFiles%\SAP\hostctrl\exe).

Follow the procedure described in the Monitoring Setup Guide in section Registering hosts in the SLD with sldreg to create the connection file and initiate the registration. The guide can be retrieved from service.sap.com/operationsnw<release> Monitoring.

3. Installing SAPACOSPrep Partner Libraries (Optional)

The Host Agent depends on SAPACOSPrep libraries which implement the functionality to manage virtual hostnames and data storage. Libraries shipped with the Host Agent allow managing virtual hostnames for Linux and Windows and managing NFS-based data storage for Linux. SAP technology partners provide libraries for other platforms and data storage solutions.

·        Contact your SAP technology partner representative to get the SAPACOSPrep partner libraries for your specific environment.

·        SAPACOSPrep partner libraries may require additional setup procedures. Follow the instructions provided by the partner.

·        You can also find information about this at service.sap.com/adaptive.
