You can use the ILM Store Browser to view the archive hierarchy of a specific XML Data Archiving Service (XML DAS), including details about the collections and resources in the hierarchy. You can also view metadata managed by the data archiving service (XML DAS). Each archive hierarchy you want to view is managed by a data archiving service (XML DAS).

Activities

To be able to view an archive hierarchy, specify the URL of the data archiving service you are targeting and choose Connect.

Archive Hierarchy View

In this screen area you can view the archive hierarchy and move within it to perform different actions on the hierarchy branches, collections, or resources.

Viewing the Archive Hierarchy

  • Set Filter: From the drop down list you can choose filters to restrict the view of your archive hierarchy to a specific area. You can choose for example ADK Files, to only view the AD hierarchy branches.

    • Collection Origin: One of the filters you can choose for the archive hierarchy view is the collection origin filter. The collection origin refers to the application-specific meaning, such as company code, client, or fiscal year, that many collections may have. It is stored along with the collection in the form of an origin property. The exact value of the property named origin is the technical name of the data element–responsible for creating the collection—in the ABAP dictionary You can choose the collection origin and a corresponding value to only display those collections that fall within that range.

Choose Collection Origin under Set Filter. The Specify Hierarchy Filter dialog screen appears. Under Collection Origin choose the origin you want to see in the hierarchy and then choose the appropriate Operator and Value. Choose Ok. The archive hierarchy now displays only those hierarchy branches which contain the collections that correspond to your selection criteria.

      Example Example

As Collection Origin you choose BUKR for company code. For Operator you choose is, and for Value you choose 001.

The archive hierarchy displays only those hierarchy branches that contain collections representing company code 001.

      End of the example.

Choose Change Settings, to change the values of the collection origin filter settings.

  • Hierarchy Branch: Enter a path to view one specific hierarchy branch. Make sure you begin the path name with a “/” character. As a result the ILM Store Browser expands the hierarchy at exactly the collection or resource with which the path that you entered ends, and displays the corresponding archive path details.

  • Switch View: You can view your archived data either from the perspective of the archive store, or the hierarchy itself regardless of its physical location. In each view you can drill down to the collections and archived resources and view the detailed information about them.

  • Archive Path Details: When you select a collection or resource in the archive hierarchy, the archive path details are displayed on the right side of the screen. The details include information about the creation time and user, and the URI, for example.

  • Show Content: In this version of the ILM Store Browser you can view the contents of individual XML-typed resources only, by drilling down to the resource you want to view. Use the secondary mouse button and choose Show Content from the menu. The contents of the resource are then displayed through the content viewer. (This function is not available for ADK files)

  • Expanding, collapsing, and reloading the archive hierarchy: You can expand, collapse, or reload sections of the hierarchy or the entire hierarchy, by selecting the collection and using the secondary mouse button. From the menu choose expand, collapse, or reload hierarchy. The latter function refreshes the hierarchy.

Access Restrictions

Administrators or those users with the appropriate authorization can place access restrictions on collections and/or resources for specific users, roles, or groups. This means that only those users, roles, or groups who appear in the access control list are authorized to view the hierarchy branch in question.

  • Restricting access: To place an access restriction on a hierarchy branch, select the collection you want to restrict and use the secondary mouse button. Choose   Configure Access Control   For This Hierarchy Branch  . The Access Control List dialog screen appears, where you can view the list of users, roles, and/or groups currently authorized to view the hierarchy branch. Use the Set Filter function to limit the list display to one of the three options (user, role, or group).

Choose Add User, Add Role, or Add Group, to provide additional users access to the hierarchy branch. For Search Filter enter either a specific name, if known, or use “*” as a wild card character. Choose Apply to insert a new line in the access control list. You can now use the field help to choose the appropriate user, role, or group from the list. Choose Ok to confirm your entry. Choose Ok again to confirm the changes in the access control list.

  • Removing access restrictions: To remove an access restriction, select the collection with limited access, and use the secondary mouse button. Choose   Configure Access Control   Remove Access Restrictions  . Choose Ok, to confirm.

Searching for Collections and/or Resources in the Archive Hierarchy

You can use the search function to look for specific collection and/or resources in the archive hierarchy. This is particularly helpful if you have a large number of archived objects in your hierarchy. To begin searching, choose Search on the right side of the Archive Hierarchy View. The Search Criteria dialog box appears:

  • Start Search in: if you know in which hierarchy branch you want to conduct your search, you can enter the path here. If you leave the default value “/”, then the search is conducted in the entire archive hierarchy.

  • Search for: Depending on how specific your search is, you can narrow the search to Only Resources, or Only Collections. If you are not sure, you can choose Collections and Resources. If resources are involved in the search, you can further narrow down the search range to specific file types, such as ADK and/or XML. Per default all options are checked.

  • Enter Name: If you know the name of a specific resource or collection you are searching for, enter it in the input field. You can use “*” as a wild card character. Choose Start to begin your search.

  • Search Results: When the search is completed, the Search Results screen appears. Here you can see in which collection the system conducted the search and a list of items found. Select an item from the list to automatically jump to its location in the archive hierarchy. At the same time the system displays the corresponding Archive Path Details. Choose Reset to empty the list of its results.

To hide the search screen and end your search completely, choose Search again.
