Monitoring of an Individual PI Domain

You can monitor an individual Process Integration (PI) installation using the Runtime Workbench that runs on the Integration Server. You can also use the Runtime Workbench to monitor distributed PI components, such as local Advanced Adapter Engines or proxy runtimes from SAP business systems. The Runtime Workbench enables you to navigate to the monitoring functions of the Integration Engine, as well as to integrate with the SAP Computing Center Management System (CCMS), and the SAP Process Monitoring Infrastructure. You can also run component monitoring by using a special CCMS Alert Monitor, which monitors the individual PI components.

Runtime Workbench provides the following options for PI monitoring:

  • Component Monitoring

  • Message Monitoring

  • End-to-End Monitoring and Configuration

  • Performance Monitoring

  • Index Administration

  • SLD Registration

  • Alert Configuration and Alert Inbox

  • Cache Monitoring

Monitoring of Multiple PI Domains

As a part of SAP NetWeaver Administrator (NWA), the SOA Management work center provides various tasks in the area of configuration, administration and monitoring. You can use the PI monitoring in SAP NWA to monitor multiple PI installations. It provides key functionalities available in Runtime Workbench for process integration monitoring tasks:

  • Message Monitoring

  • Performance Monitoring

  • Cache Monitoring

  • Alert Inbox/Rules

  • End-to-End Monitoring

  • Adapter Monitoring

  • Communication Channel Monitoring (Adapter Engine)

  • Sequence Monitoring

  • Web Service Logging and Tracing

PI monitoring in SAP NWA excels the Runtime Workbench by allowing you to centrally monitor multiple PI installations. The enhancements in SAP NWA for PI facilitate cross navigation between the individual monitors and enable the monitoring of Web service communication, for example, WSRM-compliant traffic.

Monitored PI Components

You can use both the Runtime Workbench and SAP NWA for PI to display and monitor the following components, all of which are part of the Integration Server:

  • Integration Engine (central)

  • Business Process Engine

  • Mapping Runtime

  • Adapter Engine (central)

  • ABAP proxy systems (business systems with an Integration Engine)

  • Non-central Adapter Engines

  • Java SE adapter

  • Integration Directory

  • Enterprise Services Repository

In addition, by using the Runtime Workbench, you can monitor the component status of the System Landscape Directory as well as of the Runtime Workbench itself.

Integration

In addition to PI monitoring in SAP NWA and the Runtime Workbench, you can perform monitoring activities using the following tools:

  • You can centrally access PI monitoring and administration capabilities from within SAP Solution Manager 7.0. It provides the integrated content, tools, and methodologies you need to implement, support, operate and monitor your enterprise's solutions from SAP. The System Administration work center of SAP Solution Manager features hyperlinks to the PI monitoring and administration tools. The PI tools themselves are executed on the satellite PI system that is managed by the SAP Solution Manager.

  • The SOAMANAGER transaction in AS ABAP provides access to logs and traces, as well as to the Sequence Monitor. More information: Working with the SOA Manager

  • You can access specific PI monitoring functions by using the SAP NetWeaver Administrator of your local AS Java. You can use them to monitor a non-central Advanced Adapter Engine or Partner Connectivity Kit.
