Purpose

If a system is able to communicate with the Integration Server, you can use SAP NetWeaver Process Integration to exchange messages with other systems.

There are various options for connecting systems to the Integration Server and these are summarized under the heading Connectivity:

Proxies encapsulate the creation or parsing of XML messages and the communication with the relevant runtime components required to send or receive the messages.

More information: Proxy Runtime

The Adapter Engine provides adapters for connecting external systems.

More information: Adapter Engine

You can use Adapter Engine (Java SE) to exchange messages with Java-SE-based non-SAP systems.

SAP Conversion Agent by Informatica allows you to convert unstructured and semi-structured data to and from XML. Data conversion can be triggered by an adapter module.

The Partner Connectivity Kit (PCK) enables business partners that do not have SAP XI to exchange messages with you. It also contains information about developing your own adapters or modules in the module processor.
