You use the Property Editor to view and modify the property values and attributes of objects and folders in the Portal Catalog.

In this topic, we describe how you use the Property Editor to view properties and edit their values. For information about editing property attributes, see Defining Property Attributes.

The Property Editor does not allow you to add new properties to an object. Properties are defined in the object's portal component.

Note Note

Any manual changes that you make to a property in an object that has a delta link to a source object breaks the inheritance between the two objects for that property—any future changes you make to the same property in the source object, will not be updated in the current object.

Any property that has been manually changed and no longer inherits its value from its source object is marked with a "not equals" icon (Broken delta link (Broken delta link)) next to the property name. Properties listed without the icon indicate that the current property value is inherited. For information on resetting manually modified properties, see Resetting Properties.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

You must have the appropriate permissions to be able to edit a folder or portal object. See Permission Levels.

Procedure

  1. Open the object whose properties you want to view or modify. See Editing an Object.

  2. If you are in the process of editing additional objects at the same time, make sure the object whose properties you are editing is the object in focus.

  3. Optional. To display properties belonging to a specific category, from the Show Category dropdown list, choose the relevant category. Choose All Properties to view all properties without filtering the list.

  4. Optional. To only display properties that can be edited, click Hide Read-Only.

  5. Click Modify.

Properties that can be modified are marked white in the Value column, and the Details link in the Attributes column changes to Edit.

  6. Locate the property that you want to modify in the property list and modify its value as needed.

    Note Note

    • You may not be able to modify certain properties as they may be defined as read-only by the content developer.

    • The data type varies from property to property. For example, you may be required to select a predefined value from a dropdown list, enter free text, specify a date or time, or to choose a radio button.

    End of the note.

    Recommendation Recommendation

    • To view a description about a property, hover the cursor over the name of the property in the property list.

    • To view additional attributes for a property, click Edit in the Attributes column. For more information, see Defining Property Attributes.

    • To view the delta link chain of an object, open the delta link tracer. See Tracing Delta Link Dependencies.

    End of the recommendation.
  7. Save the object to apply changes you have made.
